Danny N. replied:
No idea about specifically working with retirees, but Moshe Wilshinsky at Moville Mortgage & Finance is an English speaker and has been working in mortgages in Israel for close to 30 years, so if anyone knows, he is a good source of information. Probably the most experienced English speaking mortgage expert in Israel.

Thanks Danny Newman - it actually has more to do with the bank than with the broker, and with the documents the banks require. In my experience, it is somewhat arbitrary. Please feel free to contact me here, or at ghbeeri@gmail.com

regarding banks: Mizrahi Tfahot is the most professional, though often has a higher starting offer. Discount is often the cheapest, but they're very unprofessional, and I recommend staying away from them. There is a lot of room for negotiations.

Adam S. replied:
Honestly, I'm happy to pay some premium to deal with an English speaker, but charging 3 x more is exploitative. A good broker definitely adds value. A co-worker recommends Gabi Harow 0503092496 or 0503091496.

Where can I find online a calculator that will tell me how much mortgage I can get according to my salary?
Beeri H. replied:
yes. This: http://bit.ly/1JHixGj
Aaron K. replied:
Max repayment is 40% of net income, so it's a pretty simple calculation. Visit www.mortgageisrael.com and click on loan calculator. Pm me if you need more help.
Aaron K. replied:
Jay L. Abramoff, but the banks who issue the loans do work on this premise. They won't approve more than 40%.

Roy Doliner, you may find it useful to use the "search this group" facility (not always available from a cell phone) at the top of this page next to the magnifying glass logo to find other discussion about this. A number of recommended English speaking brokers who have come up on this group a number of times are Moshe Wilshinsky at Moville Mortgage & Finance, Beeri Gurtler Har-Tuv, Aaron Krasner and Blue Crown Capital. Appologies if I have missed out anyone. Worthwile speaking to some or all of them if relevant to get an indication of how mortgage brokers work. When it comes to insurances required, there are 2 insurances to consider (which you should speak to your insurance agent about), which should be taken out in a way to consider other factors, including 3rd party liability, the ability to add contents to the same policy (if relevant), potential fluctuations in interest rates and how the life insurance should be structured to ensure one is not underinsured if the interest rates go up etc. Good luck! http://www.goldfus-ins.co.il/logic_eng.asp?id=37...
