We had dinner at Tampanco last night. Our friend paid by credit card. This morning they discover 2 authorized charges on their card. They immediately canceled the card....
David T. replied:
Annette Sidon, especially now because when they go to charge the account they will find that the card is closed.
David T. replied:
Danielle Williams, they got in touch with me via email. Asked me if I was in China. lol
Zoë J. replied:
A "little"? LOL. Happy New Year.
Roger P. replied:
I use CapOne CC, no international charges, I pay in pesos and it's converted to dollars at CapOne at about 25 centavos below the closing Bank of Mexico/Banxico for the current day, never had a problem at Tapanco, top notch every time for me since it opened http://www.banxico.org.mx/
David T. replied:
Gordon Kane, yes. Not with over-charging on credit cards but twice padding the bill. Also under cooked chicken made my wife sick.
Anyone here have a very favorite restaurant in Puerto Nuevo, and if so, why?
Zoë J. replied:
This is where we always go. Very unimposing, but always friendly, a rooftop as well as inside, nothing fancy. Right across from the huge Ortegas (and the ATM). Going to go next week when a guy friend comes to visit from Tucson. We also are here at the Lobster Festival. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g150774-d3891388-r188458274-El_Guero_Restaurante_Bar-Rosarito_Baja_California.html
some one once posted that they had GREAT prime rib at a restaurant in Rosarito area. Does anyone know where?
Elaine D. replied:
Baja Calypso
Jeff F. replied:
Not to gyrpe to much. But went to Baja Calypso for the first time. Ordered the Prime Rib. I got a ribeye steak? Not the delicious looking Prime Rib on the ad. Steak was good. But no what I expected. But will go back.
Craig N. replied:
Mexicans don't generally sit down to a rib eye steak dinner, at least not my Mexican family. When I cook a huge prime rib for a holiday dinner in Rosarito it's a huge deal for them. Getting a Rib Eye when you order Prime Rib is a genuine grype for a tourist and gringo meat lover... not so much for a Mexican imho.
Has anybody been to Galeón or Barracuda Restaurant in Calafia?
Jane K. replied:
You still looking for the perfect restaurant? LOL....for your after dinner entertainment, may I suggest the Lighthouse? They have a fantastic band there tonight. Pachuco Blues.
Adrian B. replied:
Always on the lookout:) We are staying at Las Olas in Calafia and heard mixed reviews about them
Jane K. replied:
Fun place, Baja Calypso at K 38, and the food is good.

Lola ia a very agreeable place but for the fact that as a coffee house, it fails abysmally. The only desert that they offer is crepes! crepes in all sorts of iteratrions: with stawberries; with cajeta, with cheese, etc. But still a crepe. a crepe is a crepe is a crepe. The only other desert they offer is cheesecake. Same modus operendí. Cheesecake with strawberries, cajeta, etc. Odd inventory for a coffee house. Have they never heard of apple pie, brownies, cookies, biscotti, tres leche cake, cupcakes?? BORING. The service is slow and disinterested As we do not got to a cafe to eat salads or sandwiches, we elect to go to Lola only when we want a coffee without a pastry as we are not big fans of neither crepes or cheesecake. Also, their selection of milks for coffee is minimal. I think they only serve desactivada but definitely NO soy milk is offered. For a really great cafe experience go to Cafe 3 or S Cafe. S Cafe has 1/2 dozen assorted home baked cakes that are DELICIOUS plus home made: mexican wedding cookies, oatmeal cookies, cranberry cookies, shortbread, etc, etc. The service couldn't be nicer or more personable. It's intimate, warm and the owner is charming.
Jeffrey K. replied:
Definitely no fresh cream although the may have dairy creamer As I don't use it, I can't say. my belief is that they only gave deslactosada. But I may be wrong. Definitely no soy milk, which is what I use. Cafe Neron offers almond milk.
Hype needed for best Chinese restaurant in Rosarito. Thanks!
Deana T. replied:
The other day, I had a delicious beef and broccoli dish at Palacio Chinese Restaurant (On the second floor of a building right on the boulevard). I wouldn't say it's the best restaurant - I've only been once, it is very basic. But the beer was ice cold, the mug was straight out of the freezer, the broccoli was plentiful and cooked perfectly, and the beef was good, not too fatty. I plan to return for another fix soon.
Hype - Honestly I was ready to give the new Rubens a ding until we set foot inside his new restaurant...never really liked his food that much until we gave his new food...
Irene D. replied:
Jerry D Dillon Sr. the easiest way to pinpoint where Ruben's is: He is on the free road right at the Cantamar exit off the toll road (next to the closed Pemex at the north end of Primo Tapia).
