My sister's dog has a fully torn ACL, can anyone recommend a vet who can do surgery for less than $4,000-$5,000 which was quoted?
Adrianne B. replied:
Dr Fallon did TPLO surgery on my friends golden retriever approx 80 lbs about 6 mos ago out of Hunt Valley Animal Hosp for approx 3000.

Yes! Everhart vet in Brooklyn Park for $1500.

Champ had surgery on both legs. Well under that amount at Pulaski vet. I know the owner very well.

Try Paw Prints Vet Clinic in Morgantown 304-296-7387....seems they were cheaper than that......

Wow, lots of active dogs out there! The dog went to Dr. T initially who diagnosed it, but he doesn't do the repairs. I'm happy to hear that DocSide is an option, they're close by. Usually they are very expensive, so glad to know it's in the running. We'll be doing some fundraising for this surgery I'm sure!

Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists! $3450 for TPLO and it's all boarded surgeons and the techs are certified. Best doctors ever. Dr.T at Light Street is awesome but he does not do the TPLO's or TTA's

i have lived thru and paid for several of these surgeries. Dr. Darren Roa at the CVRC in Annapolis is the absolute BEST. There are several options. Most vets reccomend a procedure called a TPLO. It is the best option (and also the most expensive). For older less active dogs there are other more affordable options.

A little bit of a drive but Pender Vet in Fairfax VA is absolutely amazing. I'd say give them a call, the staff is so helpful that you could get a quote quickly. Dr. Voell is my recommendation but they are all fantastic there.
Heather P. replied:
CVRC in Towson and Dr. Spivack in Waldorf. That's close by. The best veterinary surgeon ever-- like a God of veterinary surgery-- is Jimmy Milton in Birmingham AL

There is 3 different types of surgery to repair a torn cruciate ligament and a significant cost difference between the 3. The wire procedure is about $1200 vs TPLO which is around $3500-$5000. http://www.ehow.com/facts_6402859_tplo-vs_-wire-acl-repair.html Good luck

Try Hampstead Veterinary Center
Saoirse S. replied:
Dr Trujillo at Light St Animal Hospital fixed my girl's ACL for less than 2K.
Brenda P. replied:
You might try Madonna Vet in Jarrettsville. I haven't had to deal with that with my dog, but they have been very reasonable on other procedures.

Shanna Van Court, these two documents might help with post-op concerns: http://vetsportsmedicine.com/services/orthopedic-surgery/documents/surgicalguidelineswhattoexpect.pdf and http://vetsportsmedicine.com/resources/ElizabethanCollars.pdf

Ugh. We had it done several years ago at Pulaski Vet Clinic for much less. But, it wasn't a full tear, and it was about 6 years ago.
Rebecca B. replied:
Helping Hands Vet Clinic in Richmond, VA - very good and very good prices
Brent E. replied:
What?! One of my cats tore his CCL a few weeks ago and my vet quoted $700-1000 for the surgery. Try Churchville Veterinary Clinic.
Veterinary G. replied:
We would be more than happy to put together a surgical estimate for you if you're still trying to determine the best fit for your sister's dog. Our board certified surgeons perform TPLOs several times a day and provide a TPLO guarantee in the event there are any complications (rare as they may be). Feel free to give us a call at 240-295-4400!

Dr. Weeren at CVRC in Towson did my first dog Roo's TPLO several years ago, and I was very impressed with him, & Roo did great. I know some people who have done "less expensive" options thatn TPLO, but have had a lot of issues & repeat surgeries. While it was expensive, he did not charge for any of our follow ups over several months after the initial surgery. Roo had to wear a cone & was on very limited leash walks for relief breaks only for about a month. It's critical that they avoid steps & jumping up. I imagine a very active dog would have to be crated. He wasn't very high energy at that point, so I just took my mattress off the frame and we lived in my bedroom for the month!

No question - VOSM!! Dr Canapp's group is phenomenal. Both my bulldogs had TPLO (only way to go unless you have a small less active dog) and recovered perfectly. I wouldn't go anywhere else!!
Looking for recommendations for a good house call vet. We’ve got 3 cats (and 1 rabbit) in my household and 2 of the cats don’t do well in the car or going to the vet...
