Aww sorry to hear that, don't know any myself but I hope you find somewhere that works and I wish the best of luck for your son! You could try making a post on one of the local Facebook groups (Smithtown has one called "Smithtown moms") as the whole point is to find recommendations for stuff on LI, but be careful, they're a vile bunch. One wrong word and they'll be witch hunting you and your son for insane reasons they made up themselves.

Aw, that's tough. My sis has ADHD and it was very difficult when we were young because it wasn't as common as it is today. She's grown up and tbh, has a lot of issues to this day but it is what it is. I hope you find someone awesome.

My daughter sees a child therapist in Patchogue. She has her own practice and my daughter her has been seeing her for abandonment and anxiety issues for a couple of years now. My daughter has made a lot of progress overall and the therapist is super friendly, down to Earth and informative. PM me if you want her name and number.

I cannot recommend Dr. Jummani in Lake Success NY (new hyde park) enough. He is part of a group called the NYU Child Study center. For the initial diagnosis they interview teachers, parents, and compares the answers with his own observations and diagnosis. He specializes in ADHD specifically, he is not quick to medicate, and most importantly he will try to rule it out if it's not ADHD (or a spectrum disorder, they can overlap). Biggest problem, he does not accept insurance and it can be a little pricey. I think it was around $2 k for the initial diagnosis and then $400 for each follow up (but that is only like 2 x per year).

Our daughter's not been officially diagnosed (we've just started the process to get her evaluated at Cohens) but she is receiving services for counseling with a LCSW from an agency called Kidz Therapy. This was approved by our school district. She meets with the therapist at home once a week for an hour. I believe the agency has an office in Nassau and one in Suffolk. Kidz Therapy also offers parent training--husband and I also have differing parenting styles so we needed help being on the same page and using the same language. Good luck!

as an adult with ADHD working for social services, I think you may need medication eventually, but in the meantime talk therapy is a good start (and it sounds like your son hasn't had any issues that would require meds, which is excellent)! I personally go to Transformations Counseling in Smithtown/Village of the Branch and I think it's awesome, but of course you have to kind of shop around and find somebody who Gets him
