Anyone know of a good eye doctor in or near Ubud. Not for glasses, but to examine the eye inside to see if something is wrong? Appreciate your suggestions...

The nearest from Ubud is Sanjiwani Hospital in Gianyar:http://rsudsanjiwani.org/ I had eyes problem too last month, and went to Dr. Dharyata in Siloam Hospital, Denpasar. Had mine examined thoroughly. But you have to make an appointment first. Here's the phone number: 0361 177 9900, extension 29701.

Dr Andayani above is a retinal specialist and surgeon. She works at Sanglah Eye hospital and at Ibu Kasih... Not the Denpasar one; at the closer one. She's good. Opthamologist Dr. Wayan Gde. Dharyata office: Phone numbers: 0361 410 257. 0811 394157 HP: 0811 393321. email: dharyata@yahoo.com in Denpasar. He's a corneal and cataract specialist and surgeon. Has private practice after hours. Does contact lens scripts. He's good. I assume they are both also generalists... Not many ophthalmologists in Bali. There's an ophthalmologist just around the corner in Teges. Has a good reputation. As to optometrists, they're aren't any in Indonesia. Not recognised here. They're all opticians. None in Ubud... Only optical sales shops. If you have a script already or a vision test here, they send it to Denpasar to get made up. Takes 3 working days usually. Rex Sumner says: If your prescription is outside/difficult, you can order from www.optikseis.com. Takes a day to process and a day to deliver. You can't get prism glasses in Indonesia at all. Fact. They do a good job on standard stuff. There's also this from another member: "There is a eye doctor in the group of practises in Kimia Farma on Diponegoro in Denpasar. This is just after Mata Hari and opposite Bank Permata if you come in from sanur. She wears coke bottle glasses herself but knows the job well. Correctly diagnosed my cataracts and bought me a year of use before having the op." As usual, it might depend on exactly what you're looking for...
