Pat Sloan's Solstice quilt is a good one to follow. Simple patterns, and good instructions, and lots of ideas for fabric combinations from other followers. And a whole week to perfect your block before another one .

Go to Missouri Star Quilt Company videos, also 5 Minute quilt block and 10 minute quilt block videos, beginning quilting videos will teach you about fabric and tools... don't get discouraged. Also go to a local quilt shop, there will be a group there and also classes to take in person.
