Quilting friends... I need some help.
I have 2 kids in the Navy in Kings Bay, GA that are under mandatory evacuation. ALL of the hotels are booked in Atlanta. Does...
Scott L. replied:
How old are they? If they are old enough to drive, and have a tent, Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton (just south of Atlanta) has opened up their campgrounds for free to all hurricane evacuees.
Virginia M. replied:
Since they are in the Navy, have they tried calling Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Smyrna GA..Northwest of Atlanta?
Virginia M. replied:
Marietta Ga
Edna J. replied:
I'm in Centre, Alabama, northeast Al about 90 miles west of Atlanta, were a small town with 2 clean motels. They probably have several rooms available, Weiss Lake Lodge 256 927-1501, Bay Springs Country Inn and Campground 256-927-3618 and also the Days Inn of Centre, not trying to advertise for these places just thought it would help if you had names and numbers, you can find Weiss Lake on the map just west of Rome Georgia
Edna J. replied:
Also you can see Centre, Al on your map
Connie M. replied:
According to NOAA the storm is shifting west toward Atlanta. See link- http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/145752.shtml?gm_track
Scott L. replied:
Marci Schnabel - the latest forecast now has the storm tracking up through FL and up through Atlanta and into Tennessee. From past experience, when hurricanes pass through here, we have spawned tornadoes. Your daughters best bet would be to go north towards Charlotte, NC if possible and avoid Atlanta / Central GA. I'm in the metro Atlanta area and will be pulling out my springtime tornado prep kits tomorrow.
Connie M. replied:
Try Augusta, Ga.
Angie R. replied:
If they are in the Navy send them to one of the Army bases like Ft. Gordon in Augusta Ga.
Scott L. replied:
Try Radisson Hotel Atlanta in Marietta - 1-855-296-5766
LaDonna P. replied:
You may want to try north like Chattanooga, TN or Gatlinburg area. Downtown Chattanooga is nice and there are plenty of places for them to walk to to eat and it is relatively safe. The weather man in Memphis said today that it may track towards Atlanta.

I stopped by on my way through Hamilton. Never had been there and just live 50 miles from there. I got a pamphlet from the lady that owns the bed and breakfast. It is Home Inn Hamilton. Phone number is 435-849-2564. There are 12 stores! You will not want to miss any. Take more than a day to go through all.

I can tell you we had a horrible night at the Days Inn in Cameron. A/c wouldn't work and it was hot! Refrigerator didn't cool and we lost some food. Internet wouldn't work. An outlet I used to charge my phone wasn't working. They gave me a free night. Want it? lol. (this was just last Thursday night - Hamilton was wonderful and I would spend another night in a hot hotel to go there again!)
Fran P. replied:
Love going to Missouri Star Quilt shops.

Here's a list of camping sites near Hamilton. I can't speak to how any of them are I would stay at a motel/hotel in Chillicothe. http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/missouri/hamilton

Traffy D. replied:
We always stay at the Motel Capri. It’s in the Marina district. One of our favorite restaurants The Brazen head is right across the street.
Lui S. replied:
Nothing affordable up there. My daughter goes to college up there. If you are going to stay for a week I would recommend staying in South San Francico or Oakland. You can take the bart or Uber back and fourth. You would save big bucks that way. When I book hotels I used hotels.com, after 10 nights you get one free.
Mom and I finally made the trip (from Louisiana/Mississippi) to Hamilton, MO, to see Jenny and The Missouri Star Quilt Shops. There are no chain hotels in the area. So,...

While you are in the area, check out Glenda's Sewing Cupboard in St. Joseph. They are part of the Highway 36 Quilt Trail and they have an awesome Row by Row.
