How do I fix back pain Does anyone know anyway to help back pain? Possibly a good chiropractor in the area or massage place? The pain is probably from sitting hunched...

I'm a personal trainer en route to PT school. I can tell you there is no "quick fix" to alleviate your back pain. Like the majority of students hunched over at a desk all day (myself included), I've implemented a few changes to my life that have seemed to improve my posture that may possible benefit you.
1) You have to strengthen your back muscles just a little bit in order to be able to sit tall all day and not hunching over. The best exercise I have found for this is this one: http://bodybuilding-wizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/back-extension-exercise.jpg
If you simply hold the extended position for that exercise for 30 seconds at a time for 3-4 times and do that at least 3 times a week your back muscles (erector spinae) specifically will begin to get stronger and your body automatically be able to sit taller and with better posture all day. If you do not have access to a gym or don't have much time, do this on the floor instead and hold each one for about 5 seconds. Do at least 20 reps. It's all about holding the extended position for this exercise and getting your hands and feet as high off the ground as possible. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/54c94891e4b07da1e178c03e/t/582e911a29687f9013fd081a/1479446814984/
2) Buy a laptop stand. A simple one on amazon for no more than $10. This simple thing helps me with my neck and back pain so much it's unreal. I used to constantly find myself looking down at my computer putting excess strain on my neck and would sometimes get headaches. Invest in a laptop stand to elevate your laptop a little in order to help you sit taller for longer.
3) When studying, get up at least once per hour and walk around a bit. This will help alleviate back pain a little bit as your posture begins to get worse as you sit for longer.
And lastly, this is a lifelong journey. Start implementing good habits now so you are not like more than half of americas adults with low back pain. It all starts with developing good habits. Don't look down at your phone when you text. Lift your phone up to your face even if you look stupid. When bending down to get something from the floor, bend AT YOUR KNEES AND NOT AT YOUR BACK. That's another thing I always see people doing and then they say "my back hurts," well that's because your putting so much stress on your back the way you lift things up. Just try to start developing good habits as I have mentioned here, gain a little strength in the muscles in your back, make a few lifestyle changes. It's a marathon not a sprint. Hope one of these tips helps you at least or someone else, cheers.

Stretch, exercise, get up every 30 minutes or so, etc.

The ARC has a massage place where students have lower prices. http://www.bodyworkassociates.com/ Also, make sure you stand up every once in awhile! Maybe get a foam roller and roll around on it.

I went to the physical therapist at McKinley. Gave me a bunch of exercises that seem to be working. I also learned that back pain is often caused by tight hamstrings so if you could try stretches for those and see if it helps.
mlac55 replied:
I find chiropractic and massage to be only short-term relief, which can be good, but the best is physical therapy. Not overly impressed with the physical therapists at McKinley or elsewhere in town with the exception of Impact PT at Green/Neil.

Dr. Ray Alexander on Neil Street is good for chiropractics

I'd invest in a good chair. Something that supports your back makes a huge difference.

I'd recommend going for a short jog a few times a week as well. One massage isn't going to fix the problem.

I recommend getting one of [these](http://www.OPTP.com/ Original McKenzie Lumbar Roll, Firm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H47GCO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ac.FAb52VV7JC) for the chair you sit in most
New to the area and need a couple trouble spots rehabbed (hips and feet)... Could anyone recommend a reputable physical therapist / PT clinic in the area? Also in search...
Alicia P. replied:
I HIGHLY recommend Jason & Erin Laughton at Rehab Professionals. It's a one stop shop. Jason is the chiropractor and his wife, Erin, does all of the PT. They are absolutely AMAZING. They really take the time to get you what you need and pin point what your aches and pains are. 1713 S State St #101, Champaign, IL 61820 (217) 355-5650
Anyone in C-U have recommendations for a good chiropractor? Looking for someone who won't just have me come back weekly forever and ever amen. #aintnobodygottimeforthat
Kära T. replied:
Dr. Edward Chun is my recommendation. I have tried a few in the area and he is great. The only one I felt completely confident he wasn't causing more issues and is happy when I feel good enough to not return. He actually told me I was getting adjusted too much.

Andy Turnsdall (SP) at Rod Sickler Salon and spa. He's a personal trainer, too. Message Nik!

I've only been once. I saw Dr. McCabe at the Crossing. I liked her. She did of course recommend I come back after my first treatment however I was fixed; so I didn't.
Robin N. replied:
Dr. Mark Paunica is the best. He takes X-rays then works on the problem until it is aligned properly
Terry A. replied:
Dr Melby
Dominique E. replied:
Dr. Melby (Neil/Springfield) & Dr. McCabe (@the crossing) are Who we have went to. McCabe specializes in women and children.

I used to go to Dr. Pride, who passed away, but the woman who bought his practice is good! I'll find out her name. I think you'd like her.
Sarah C. replied:
I might know a guy... My husband Adam has an office over by the crossing. He takes Health Alliance too!! And he has a massage therapist in his office!
Susan W. replied:
I like Dr. Kevin Bowie on S. Neil across from Hardees.
Kristy W. replied:
I saw Dr. Erickson on S. Neil in Savoy when I was pregnant with Charley. I was totally phobic of chiropractors because, well, they crack your neck and your back which just doesn't seem natural. However, I was in so much pain I couldn't not go. I went two weeks in a row to start, then once a month. He was great! Very calming and reassuring. He took Health Alliance.
Rosie P. replied:
Dr. Gosset is thorough. Melby is inexpensive but not as thorough. Dr. Chladny is between the two. I wasn't as impressed with Melby as much as some of your other post-ers.
Hillary M. replied:
Mark Wertz DC check him out! Honest person who will take care of you
Mary S. replied:
Gay Adams in Monticello is worth the drive
Karen O. replied:
Dr. Kari Fitton, in Bloomington. She is definitely worth the drive--a Christian too!
Luanne S. replied:
Dr. McCabe is the one I was talking about. She's good!
DerickDebra T. replied:
Dr Anderson on country fair drive. He works with a massage therapist. She did a great job for me. Derick sees Dr Anderson only when he needs to & Dr Anderson is perfectly ok with it.
If you just call Farmer City Chiropractic, tell them Chet referred you, and ask them for the date of the next info class, they can get you signed up. They suggest that you bring your spouse to the class if at all possible, so you might want to talk to Joel about that before calling... if you call. They're super-nice and can tell you what your insurance would cover so you know what to expect before deciding.
Phyllis D. replied:
Chet drives out to see Aaron Skinner in Farmer City at Farmer City Chiropractic. Totally worth the drive! He also does a lot of nutritional things. The main benefit to his approach is that he is able to adjust the axis (the top vertebra near the base of the skull. Because of this, the rest of the adjustment is just much more effective.
Polly H. replied:
Dr Schwartz does that too
Phyllis D. replied:
Dr. Schwartz was interesting when Chet tried to see her. Basically, he went once and never went back. It was a bit too much for him when she said she talked to his pancreas, and it told her it was fine. smile emoticon I think Dr. Skinner's practice is the only o ne in the area that does this particular type of adjustment, although it's possible that she has started it since we last heard. Judy used to see her and then switched to Dr. melby. I've seen Dr. Melby myself, and if you jut need an adjustment, that might be great. But if you're looking for a more holistic chiropractic practice, you'd have to ask Melby if he does that. Dr. Skinner runs a milk group to Lavon's farm, so he'd be nutritionally on board with things you're dealing with Annie. He does a class once a month where you can get a coupon for a free evaluation. Chet can refer you for that if you're interested. Not sure what insurance (if any) you have. That may be a factor too.
Phyllis D. replied:
Sorry. I used the wrong term. It's the atlas. Chet said Dr. Schwartz has an older table that allows her to do something with the atlas, but she's not an atlas orthoganist like Dr. Skinner and the guys in his practice.
Rachel G. replied:
I love Dr McCabe! She is great and also specializes in pregnancy adjustments. She is over at the crossing
