Is there anyone who does pest control on the island? Have an active football sized wasp nest under the eaves.

We use Sunrise Pest Management and have been really happy with them. They come out to Vashon on Tuesdays. http://www.sunrisepest.com

Amy Carey is correct ---- if this is one of those wood pulp paper nests --- with a few small entry holes ---- they are the only ones I know of that get " football sized " ----- and are usually up under the eaves ----- we have lots of them ----- and usually one or two new ones each year ----- these are beneficial critters especially I think for keeping down the pests that eat your fruit trees and such ----- we never bother them and they never bother us ----- they seem pretty docile ---- as we sometimes get them under our porch --- and can pass freely by many times a day without trouble ---- they get to know us I guess and the pups ----- they will build new nest this summer --- that old one is abandoned ---- except we always leave them up there because the little tiny grey birds that pick the aphids off your plants with their little toothpick beaks ---- can nest and keep warm in there in the winter ---- and other birds will tear the paper strips down for making nests also ----- occasionally when the nest is new ---- overzealous nest guards will bounce off of me --- as a warning ----- but I have never been stung by one of these hornets ---- they are not aggressive like the ground nesters ---- or even the ones that are sometimes found out in the trees and shrubs ---- the ones we have under our eaves ---- are very tame ---- and free " pest control "

Yes, I would love to keep them to eat garden pests, but my daughter is allergic to stings, so can't do that. It is a very big wood pulp nest, and I know is not supposed to be active, but there are quite a few flying bugs that sting- don't know if they are wasps or hornets- flying in and out. guess they didn't read the book! I have guys trying to clean the moss off the roof who won't go back up until the nest is gone. Sunrise pest control coming on Tuesday.

We LOVE the company Birds and Bees. Chemical-free removal of Bees and Wasps. David Skryzypek is the owner. We had a giant paper wasp nest 3 stories up on the house and he got it down, got the wasps in a bucket, which he freezes and feeds to his chickens. Very affordable. Great guy! His number is 916-214-1889
Who offers pest control services on the island? Thanks!

bugs or critters? The Rat Detective
James C. replied:
Try Johan at Progressive Pest Solutions out of Burien. He's done great work here at Harbor School and at my home. Unlike the big corporate guys, Johan is thoughtful about how he treats and what he uses. Typically he can start with lower toxicity and increase to the nasty stuff only if necessary (never has been necessary here, thankfully). (206) 444-6250

Thanks Adina Cunningham. The Rat Detective does rodent control and crawl space restoration. If these are the needs you have please call us at 206-643-0058. Wee have a free evaluation service for all Island Residents and Businesses.
Can anyone recommend a good pest control service (rodents!) that services the island?
Libby S. replied:
No Sonny Winters the dead critter in the wall is mine. The live ones are hers.
Tracy P. replied:
The Rat Detective - he is awesome. 643-0958. Chris will come and give you a free estimate. Well worth it.
Tink C. replied:
Not necessarily. The Rat Man is very good. He seals things and destroys the urine trails and other things that make infestation so chronic. PM me if interested.
Jan S. replied:
We've had the best luck in both attic and crawl spaces with traps using peanut butter or the Gummy Bear bait that you can find at True Value. If you use traps they can't crawl off to die in the wall. I know, I know, it's disgusting to have to deal with the dead bodies but less disgusting than living with the smell of the corpse rotting in the wall.
Beth F. replied:
Thank you Amber Nicole Crandall and Tracy Garrett Poole. Chris will do a full evaluation of your property. Unfortunately he does not tear into walls, but could seal you up to prevent future rodents. He does guarantee his work and always has. He can be reached at 206-643-0058.
Needing rodent help or advice! Can't figure out where they are getting in, but they hide under the stove, our live traps still kill them, the cats play with them and...
