Can anyone recommend a good mechanic? Preferably not too far from UA's campus. I need to find a good mechanic who won't try and overcharge me, thinking I'm a naive...

I get my work done at Ralphs in Tallmadge. GREAT place. Solid work and really nice and honest guys. I won't go anywhere else.

Ralph's Auto Care, Geneva Ave, Tallmadge. EDIT: You said transmission. Don't go to Ralph's for transmission, he won't touch it. (Only thing he won't do.) Waterloo Transmissions *WAY* down on South Arlington is the only one I've ever heard anyone talk about. All good things.

Steve's Sunoco, best around. Never try to cheat you. It's at 1550 W. Market.

IB Auto in Ravenna is a great little shop. A little far but you might save the extra in tow truck fees on the service there.

Stan's Auto Service 1465 S Main St, Akron, OH 44301 (330) 773-3391 I know the owner Stan Miller, always have been reputable and fixed what was wrong with my car for a fair price. I would recommend them. They are located near the Main Street Saloon, Firestone Stadium area....not far from campus For Transmission work I would recommend Akron Transmission: http://www.akrontrans.com/ 2416 S. Main St, Akron OH 44319 330-644-4011

The Marathon on the corner of W Market and Merriman is fair. My gf took her shitty Suzuki there a couple times and they were always open to looking for an affordable fix. I went there once to get my brake line fixed and they ended up charging less than the low end of the initial estimate.

I use Wal Tech in Mogadore and I HIGHLY recommend him. His prices are great, he knows what he's doing, and he's straight with what you need. I always get the sense he's trying to help me rather than get my money. I actually had someone on /r/Akron recommend him to me. I had a noise on my car I took to four mechanics and spent $2500+ fixing it and it never got fixed. I took it to him and after 1 minute of driving down the road, he knew was it was, fixed it for $85, and it's been quiet since. He's only open weekdays till 5 but has a loaner car if you make an appointment in advance.

I've used the falls automotive school regularly. They do great work and it's insanely cheap. It's part of the Cuyahoga falls public school system. Really helpful people there.
