Anyone know a good mechanic who specializes in older muscle cars? (1979 or later) I'm considering buying an old Camaro but I'd like to make sure it's mechanically sound....

The guy who runs it, Dale (?) is apparently an excellent mechanic, honest all around, and he can apparently fix ANYTHING.
My father took his motorhome in for multiple problems and he fixed them all, his truck, no problem, family van, done in less than a day, and apparently he's honest when it comes to charging for work and such, nobody in my family has ever had a problem with him.
I've never met the man, as I don't have a car, but everybody I've talked to who's taken their vehicle there has apparently never had a problem.
I'd at least give him a call and inquire.
Hope everything works out, I love older cars but don't have the guts (or the money) to own one right now.

I've got a couple of classic cars and Jim at [Jimmy Eddie Repairs](http://www.yelp.ca/biz/jimmy-eddie-repairs-victoria) is the best I've found. He really knows older cars and he is well connected to specialists when they are needed. He is always trying to keep your costs down and never books work before it is needed.

What kind of speciality are you looking for? Is it fuel injected or carbureted? If it's carb'd take it to Neil and Rick at Ellice, they are one of the only shops in town that have parts in stock for most carbs. I did my second year with Rick and have nothing but good things to say about him, he's a genius and his dad is well known for his expertise and quality of work. If it's on the mainland i'd highly recommend you take it to the independent speed shop in Langley. Bill is probably the most respected tuner in BC and has done some AMAZING work on all kinds of high performance builds. Having a dyno there doesn't hurt either. I just moved to Marigold, the owner Ray is a super nice guy and has lot's of experience with muscle cars and performance trucks. He's also big into Rolls and Bentleys too. We could easily do a pre buy if thats what you are looking for. If your in the Fairfield area I worked at Fairfield Auto Repair for quite a while and would honestly say that Harb is a very honest guy who will give you some good/honest advise at what you are looking at. If you end up seeing either Harb or Rick tell them Nick sent you, they will take good care of you.

Esso car clinic on hillside and Shelbourne is pretty good for day to day, and Searles auto on Kelvin do damn good work too, I've never had either disappoint me.

Searles, Victoria Transmission It's hard to find a car of that age (which hasn't been restored) that doesn't have a few maintenance issues. I'd be more concerned about rust/body issues more than anything which you can probably look at yourself. Cars of that vintage are mechanically simple, parts are plentiful and reasonably cheap. (IE: Don't pass up a car with a solid/straight body because it needs new brakes)
Anybody know of a good mechanic in Victoria? I have lots of work that needs to be done and the quote Audi gave me might be a touch high.

I think the shop has to be approved by the Registrar of Imported Vehicles. At least that was the case when I brought a car back from the States.
