Movers recommendations from Boston to NYC? I'm moving in several weeks from Boston to Lower Manhattan. Does anyone have any recommendations for moving companies? It's...

Rent a moving van yourself. Pay movers in Boston to load, drive the van yourself and pay movers in NYC to unload. This will be the most bang for your buck.

The guys I used to move last time my wife and I moved have helped several clients of mine move from out of state or to out of state. Happy to connect you via email, if you'd like. Just shoot me a PM

We used Can't Stop Moving, paid $2,230 for packing, furniture dissassemble, the drive, and furniture assembly. They were polite, careful and worked hard.

I used Lexel Moving last year...highly recommend them. Great service, clear communication, and very trustworthy. it was around $1,000 for them to pack everything up, load into the truck, drive down to NY, unload, and bring everything into my apartment. Note that it's typically a two day process.

I used Mercury Movers and highly recommend them for a Boston to NYC -they were really great to work with with. I had two stops on my way down from Boston and they made it really easy for me. It was a flat rate which I liked more than by hour because I didn’t have to worry if there were delays due to traffic, extra hours they didn’t account for, etc. They moved my stuff out one day and then in the next and stored the stuff in the truck overnight. I dealt with Dan Oliphant (not sure if he is still there)

Someone necroed this thread, which reminded me that it would probably be helpful to mention the service I eventually went with: Anton's Movers. My Yelp review is quoted below.
I will emphasize that I ended up having money to spend on moving, so I was willing to focus on service and convenience, but I did like the option /u/paratactical suggested the most when I was thinking I might want to save the money.

> - Price quote was prompt and accurate: it didn't change either before or after the actual move, and even though it was flat, the movers didn't slack off because the price was already set.
> - Lots of leeway in the move to fit my needs: for example, I needed furniture disassembled, and a one-day move, and Anton's helped a lot with both points.
> - My movers (Garphil and Serg) were on time and extremely polite. They showed care for my items/furniture. Because of my travel schedule, they had to move into the new place without me actually being there (I had a friend supervise), and when I finally showed up, everything was perfectly set up for me, and stored in an easy to unpack method.
> - The movers were clearly professional and with experience, loading items and disassembling furniture very quickly. They wrapped any sensitive items that looked like it would need it (wooden furniture, TV screen), and knew how to load stuff onto the truck so that it would be both fast and safe (loading my entire room took about 40 minutes from arrival).
