Toys R Us moved out of the WG shopping center several years ago & is now on Rt. 63 near where Garden Fair/Franks used to be with Babies R Us & more stores. Crazy Eddie was on the 2 nd floor of Marshalls where Modells is now. Home Goods is in the old toy store/Penn Fruit building now. http://www.federalrealty.com/properties/willowgrove/

Remember eating at The Hot Shoppes, for sure. And the only IHOP for miles around -- and which was open all night -- was there in Jenkintown.
Who remembers the first fast food restaurant in town?
And what the prices were for a burger, fries and shake?
Bob F. replied:
It was Burger Chef. For 51 cents you could get a burger (19 c), fries (17 c) and a shake (15 c)!!!!
Kathy G. replied:

When I worked at Kiddie Toy Center for the 1966 Christmas season, owner Paul Hoiker sent me & another kid to Burger Chef for Burgers, fries, cokes, milk shakes, etc. for 8-9 of us doing a late day inventory with $5. We came back with 2 box loads of stuff--PLUS something like $1.25 in change!

I was one of the first employees at Gino's which opened in November 1970. Burger Chef predated Gino's by several years.
