From Claire
I would like to extend the ground floor of my house and require the services of an architect who can advise if planning permission is required and prepare...

Steph W. replied:
There are lots of architects in Winchester, all of different sizes offering different styles. Check out the riba website's find an architect page. Alternatively, I'm a Chartered architectural technologist & can provide what you need & have plenty of experience with working with award winning architects. PM me if you would like to talk things over. The planning portal's 'do I need permission' page is useful - it states the requirements for extensions which can be built under the permitted development (don't need planning permission). Builders - can highly recommend Lex projects, 07711 691299 & Medway building services. Both will probably want drawings to quote from. Both great, professional builders
Mel P. replied:
Best Architect EVER: Huw Thomas, Winchester.
Mark B. replied:
Look on www.arb.org.uk for an architect who is regulated and www.architecture.com for those who are also chartered. Many are not what they seem

Sanna W. replied:
We used MDT Design. They quoted a bit cheaper then the others, they had great ideas and were very patient with all my changes. They also had a good way of handling the planning department. Not sure about builders yet... Good luck!
Adrian P. replied:
I would recommend Mark Richardson at Sunstone Design, did a brilliant job for friends of mine.

More help required! Looking for a local architect for a relatively modest extension project. Any ideas?
Anna W. replied:
We have used a lovely architect called Mark Benzie (a client of Simon's). He is a nice guy and really talented. Let me know if you would like his number! X
