I've used http://www.adria24.com/ before and got an incredible deal on a hotel through them, too. Using a travel agent to go to Croatia is an absolute waste of time, as many smaller tourist operations simply won't be listed with them. Croatia, fortunately, hasn't been ruined by mass tourism yet. Rahul, most people in Europe wouldn't use a travel agent for that sort of trip. They might use one for an all inclusive (food, hotel, flights and transfers) holiday, but for city breaks, everyone is booking independently. As for being better planned, you're just paying a travel agent to do the same job that you can do yourself. Certainly paying a travel agent to book flights and hotels independently of each other is madness.

Irina, maybe you could consider Orebic on Pelješac? It has a sandy beach, Orebic isn't very crowded (still busy, though) and the Pelješac peninsula is beautiful. The problem in Croatia is that there's very few areas with sandy beaches that aren't very very busy. If you can accept a pebble beach, then I can recommend many, many excellent places to go that are quiet and aren't crowded. booking.com is excellent for finding apartments. As for travel agents and Croatia, don't do it unless you want the completely inauthentic Croatian travel experience. I'm not against travel agents, but most likely, you'll end up in a depressing Yugoslav-era concrete hotel that makes you want to kill yourself after a few hours.
