There is a vet clinic in Lancaster that is a non-profit and works with low income families. Have you tried there? It sounds like they would be willing to work with you. Here is the article in the newspaper from 2015. http://fox43.com/2015/06/10/new-animal-hospital-in-lancaster-county-helps-low-income-families-take-care-of-pets/
Ok facebook friends! I need a new veterinarian to take Grizzly to. I want a good one! Any suggestions!

Larry N. replied:
Dr. Schimt, at Patton Veterinarian Hospital in Red Lion, thats where Bandit goes.
Tiffany R. replied:
Ditto what Justin said. Their mistreatment was how we found Dr Cheek. Horrible people...
Tiffany R. replied:
We love Dr Cheek with Leaders Heights...she's gentle and kind.
Kira N. replied:
Thanks! We were taking him to East York Vet since he was 8 weeks old but they messed up big time. They gave him a vaccination and never documented it and now they are arguing with me they never gave it. He will not be going back there aain! Its a shame I use to like them a lot.
Justin S. replied:
Dr London. On queen st. The best vet ever. All the girls in there are the best!!
I'm moving to Harper's Ferry in two weeks. I'm going to be needing new doctors. Family doctor, obgyn, vet, and a great pediatrician. If everyone could send me a personal...
Joanne D. replied:
Tammy I see all these opinions & I suppose they are based on their experiences. Once you get here I'd check out whichever one & if you're not happy then jusdt try the next one. i love HFFM bec there are so many doctors and they always get me in that da y or ASAP. You'll find one you like among al of them. Best of luck!! Good church is Mannings Assembly of God on the mt, preacher really on fire for God or try Crossroads in Shepherdstown with Pastor Derrick Amsler. Very on fire church. Kids love it there too!
Lisa F. replied:
Regardless of what other people on here say, Harpers Ferry Family Medicine's Office is part of WVU's teaching hospitals. The doctors are great. Also, Apple Valley Vet in Ranson, is terrific.
Tarin T. replied:
Dr. Smith HFFM for peds. In Ranson go to Head Hunters and ask for Shannon for your hair needs. Hardings on 51/Leetown Rd for auto care. China Fortune for yummy Chinese food. Welcome to the area!
Cecelia S. replied:
We use Hillside Veterinary Hospital for our pets. Dr. Singh for our eyes but we still go to Brunswick and Frederick for our other doctors.
Jane M. replied:
Dr Aaron McLaughlin at harpers ferry family medicine and Angela Oglesby same dr off for obgyn, vet dr hinkey battle town animal in Berryville Va.
Lisa B. replied:
Dr Joanna Luciano-Parker and Dr Smith for dental needs.
Terri S. replied:
Dr Nathan is no longer in the country... At least that's what I keep hearing.
Peggy C. replied:
We use Walgreen Pharmacy. Don't like Walmart Pharmacy. Also like CVS.
Christy J. replied:
We go to Leesburg for general practice, peds, and OBGYN. I tried several here and in Winchester but had awful experiences. It's a drive but it's worth it to me. One of my kids has therapy in Frederick and that's been great too. Just getting a dr here t o call you back or honor an appointment without changing it multiple times has been a challenge. But definitely check out Studio M in Charles Town and while you're there stop by Southern Charm and Et. Cetera for some shopping. And Mediterranean Cafe in Charles Town has the best food around. Welcome to the area, it's a wonderful place to live.
Peggy C. replied:
Ranson Animal Hospital in Ranson, WV. Norman Wilt III the Vet.
Marissa N. replied:
I have Angela Oglesby from Harpers Ferry Family Medicine and I really like her. I think you have to choose someone whose been there for awhile. Oglesby, Bentley, Baltierra.. to name a few. Now I went in there for a sick visit and got one of the student s and she told me my tonsils looked good. The thing is I haven't had my tonsils since I was 8. Lol Oglesby has never let me down and shes treated me for a pretty life threatening illness. The walmart isn't scary in my opinion, over night possibly. My fiance is an overnight stocker and theres some weirdos customer wise. But if thats scary try going to Martinsburg or Germantown, MD you'll want to go to Charles Town Lol. Walmart has the worst pharmacy ever. We use CVS, Walgreens, or RiteAid. Dentists Stay away from Dr. Chambers. I seriously think hes in it strictly to make money and doesn't have your best interest at hand. Go Mayhew. I agree China Fortune best chinese here. Kings in Kearneysville is our favorite for subs and pizza. We absolutely do NOT eat at Long Johns/A&W or Burger King. The only fast food we will eat is Wendy's or Taco Bell.
Peggy C. replied:
Jersey Mikes has good subs. And Hair Cuttery two doors down.:)
Peggy C. replied:
NO..... Ranson Animal Hospital. It's on FB. Norman L. Wilt III the Vet.
Thomas M. replied:
Appletree in Ranson for the pets, INOVA for all human care. J&K Precision Auto in Ranson for care care.
Tammy D. replied:
R&A eyecare in Ranson by Dollar General.... Dr Rebuck and staff are awesome!
Peggy C. replied:
If you need a retina eye dr. specialist go to Frederick, Md. Wilmer Eye Institute ( John Hopkins ) has a satellite office in Frederick, MD.
Andrea D. replied:
I second all the recs for Harpers Ferry Family Medicine. Dr. Moerschel is amazing (pediatrician). And Dr. Zavala, even though I've never see her as a Dr, she's a great friend (known her for years), parent and community member. Hillside vet it great, to o! Autoserv in Charles Town is the best place for oil changes, auto repairs, etc... They are honest (SERIOUSLY!), helpful and efficient. I always see the same nice faces when we go in. You should also check out some local businesses in the County (some in Charles Town, some in Shepherdstown): Mellow Moods, Black Dog Coffee, Mediterranean Cafe, Blue Moon Cafe, Ellsworth Music, Needful Things, and Wear it Again Kid. There are others, too. And the area has GREAT Farmers Markets that start in the Spring. Welcome!!!
Lisa F. replied:
Also, a great pediatrician is Sarah Moeschell, she is at Harpers Ferry.
Diana G. replied:
We take our doggies to Shenandoah. I know it is probably one of the more expensive vets, but their facilities and vets are amazing. For Dr we go to places in MD because my hubs works for the federal govt in DC and the insurance he has is out of network in WV. Yes, do visit the old town areas of Shepherdstown and Charles Town. Harpers Ferry is really pretty! Old town Frederick, MD (20 mins from you) is really awesome! More crowded, but the restaurants are really amazing.
Dena L. replied:
I second the charles town farmers market. Such a gem to the area. I'm a vendor there with my jewelry business Denalistondesigns.com
Julie S. replied:
I wanted to chime in here and say *Welcome* - and to let you know that there is no apostrophe in Harpers. Harpers Ferry. Not grammatically correct - but that's how you spell it. Also Charles Town is two words.:)
Patricia K. replied:
We love Hillside Vet. The adults in the family all go to Dr. Alfret Shakesprere for our General Practitioner. He's right off 340 in Charles Town. Love him.
Peggy S. replied:
Oh wow......First of all, Welcome to our little corner in the eastern panhandle of WV. You sure have a lot of info to digest.....good luck!!! I have a granddaughter that works at Harpers Ferry Medical Center, so that would be my recommendation. Also, Hillside Vet would be my pick, both my dogs go there and they are very good and caring with my furbabies. As for everything else, I've had great care with my Dr. here, as well as at Jefferson and Berkeley Medical Centers. Good luck choosing who will fit your family the best. Everyone has their own opinion, again welcome!!!!
Elaina P. replied:
Welcome! I would recommend NOT using Harpers Family Medical Center or ANY facility associated with the WVU healthcare system. Their billing department is deplorable to say the least. I have had issue after issue with their billing. Twice now they have sent me to collections for bills that were paid in full and on time. Proving their attorney with a copy of my cancelled check was what finally resolved the harassing phone calls no matter how many times I provided Them with the information. They have misdiagnosed a broke hand and their orthopedic specialist misdiagnosed an ankle injury to the point where she said it was not sprained enough to MRI. A 2 nd opinion revealed, yes 3 tears in the tendons that eventually required complete lateral reconstruction. I would recommend the Loudoun medical system or Winchester Hospital.
Sheila A. replied:
We use Dr. Tara Trumbler at Hillside Veterinary Hospital in Charles Town. She is amazing with my lab! Nothing but praises from me.
Christina B. replied:
Bolivar Medical Center is now called Harpers Ferry Family Medicine for when ur looking it up. Hope you and ur family find everything you need and feel at home when u get here. Welcome

Karen B. replied:
Dr Reilly on susq tr. his daughter is awesome
Linda D. replied:
Thank you Ladies...I got an appt. this afternoon made at Dover Hospital for tomorrow evening with Dr. Dan or Dave. I tried for a second time to call Dr.Ann Roger's friend and this is the second time her office has turned me down or away so I won't be going there but thank you for all the suggestions, big help and now I have backups for in the future:)
Pet insurance? Does anyone have it for their pets?Recommend it? I haven't researched it yet but Vet bills with a sick cat are getting a little hard to swallow...
