The last post about bike shops was like a year ago... and the recommendations were in Fremont which is fine if that's where the only good bike shops... but I'm looking for a good bike shop that I can bring my girlfriend's old bike into and they can suggest how I can get it "like new" again but without trying to scam me like stereotypical car mechanics do. I'm a total bike noob so a shop that isn't afraid to walk me through things is a plus. I'm also looking to buy a bike for me so if there's a different shop with good prices I'd also be interested in that. Thanks for all the advice!

  For exploring the city and not trying to set a speed record I know Velo bike shop rents bikes. I think they're more of a hybrid style and less pure road bike. I barely see a reference to their rentals on their website but I think it's 30 or 35 dollars a day. http://www.velobikeshop.com
