I just quilted a queen size quilt on my Janome 500 e. One technique is edge-to-edge quilting. I used Amelie Scott Designs for the single stitch embroidery pattern. It took over 160 hoopings. I used blue painters tape when the design was going off the edge of the quilt to prevent the foot from catching. Here is an intro to here technique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGJVqolP4 eM You can also google "edge-to-edge quilting on your embroidery machine." Have lots of bobbins ready. Good luck.

Agreed...Brother Dream Machine (Baby Lock Destiny is the same machine, made in same factory...differ by what embroidery is loaded in). Buy from a dealer and take classes...delightful machine! Had mine for over two years and LOVE it. Pricey, but worth every Penney!!!
Tina H. replied:
This is what you may want to think about- First narrow down your budget, once you have your budget then go to an actual sewing machine store preferably one with a service center as well that way you can get your service done there as well. Singer makes PFAFF, Viking and of course the Singer Machines. Janome is decent but their combo machines can be expensive. Brother is also good and you probably want one grade higher than the walmart machine if you can afford it. Then you have Baby Lock also a good machine also on the higher end.

Pfaff!!! Or Husqvarna Viking. They are both great brands. Find some different brand dealers around you and try out a few different ones. Ask what the dealer offers extra...free learn your machine classes? Service tech on site? A good dealer can make all the difference.

My Baby Lock Esante does embroidery too, but I don't use it. I do use the machine to sew and quilt and love it. My traveling machine is a BL Melody that I also really enjoy. Once you learn your machine you will want to keep it. Your dealer should have included lessons with the purchase, I'd not, look for a dealer who does and pay for them. You won't regret it.
