Executive Lock & Key from the Del Ray Hardware store is great. If you want to replace the mortise lock that will be really expensive. They can replace the mortise lock cylinder for much less.

No reputable locksmith will risk his license to make copies of keys stamped "do not duplicate". If you need extra keys, ask for them through your apartment management.

I would just try going to Home Depot or Ace or even the supermarket. I’m sure you would be able to find someone who would do it. Half the people in those positions don’t give a shit, just tell them you are the landlord, or make up some sap excuse.

I also need a copy of a key like this made but don't know anyone shady. I did when I lived across the country but not here. I've tried all the self service kiosks and tricks. The key itself is not the same size as the keys offered in those machines so it won't work even if you cover up the do not duplicate. Maybe we live in the same building.

Have you tried saying your key got lost/stolen and you need a new key? Say both are gone just to make it sounds legit. Also, I used to be a landlord. If you know the management company name I can see if I know anyone working there and see what their company policy is, or do you have a copy of your lease agreement?
