Recommendations on best time to go to Disneyland? I am a first timer and my husband, is not. I have a few questions as we will be spending our 5year anniversary there. (...
Hannah M. replied:
Disneyland, not Disney world correct? There's only three Disneyland hotels. Paradise pier I've heard is not worth staying at. It's not super Disney theme, not overly nice for the price you're paying, and it's really not that close to the park. Grand California hotel is the closest and super beautiful. It has its own entrance into California adventure and then it also enters into downtown Disney. If you really want a Disney themed hotel, the Disneyland hotel is what you want. It's nice and it goes with the magical theme of the park. It's at the entrance of downtown Disney, so not super far, you can also use the monorail to get to Disneyland faster. Honestly, the parks are always crowded. There's not so much a better time of the year to go anymore, it'll always be crowded. But I think going in the fall is a lot of fun, going around Christmas time is nice because of the weather and also the decorations. In the off seasons (like February) when it's "less" busy you run into rides being closed because they're being renovated. So check out on their site what will be closed when you go to visit. There's lots of Disney food blogs out there, they have awesome food!! Rides to get fast passes to first are space mountain in Disneyland and Radiator springs racers in California adventure. But race to Peter Pan first thing because that one doesn't have a fast pass and the lines are crazy!! There's lots of Disneyland planning groups you can look up on facebook

Go to Magic Mountain instead
Alyssa H. replied:
There is a fb page called mouseforlife page and those people know all the ins and outs! Or funcheaporfree.com if you search Disney she has several posts about Disneyland and the best way to do it and save money as well! I heard ticket prices go up I think today but if you buy your tickets now they are good all year!
Restaurant Help - Outside of parks Hey all,
I am looking for a restaurant outside of the parks for dinner on a Friday night this summer...either in one of the hotels or...
welostmagic replied:
I like the Jazz Kitchen in DTD, but mostly for their beignets.
meh_apathy replied:
Do you have a car and/or willing to leave the resort area? The [Anaheim Packing District](http://anaheimpackingdistrict.com/) is a cool area with a lot of different, unique food vendors. I recommend checking it out if you're looking to do something different outside the resort. If you want to stay closer to the hotel and parks, you could always try the lounge area of Steakhouse 55. They have a different menu, with flatbreads, burgers, and other things with a more manageable price.

I've had wonderful meals at Naples and the Jazz Kitchen. I've also heard very good things about Catal, and their dining areas look amazing.

Bucca Dipepo: Good Italian. Pizza Press: next to Tropicana Inn - made to order personal pizzas Tony Roma's: Average priced steakhouse
MeatCurtainRod replied:
The rainforest cafe is always fun. As well as the jazz kitchen. Between the two, I would rate rainforest cafe more entertaining, but jazz kitchen more fancy food.
valiamo replied:
Tortilla Joes, they have outstanding Mexican food, and are not that expensive. Try the table side Guac, it is outstanding. Table for two, you will need to book in advance. Hint, if it is your birthday month, sign-up for their newsletter in advance, and you will get a coupon for an awesome discount on your dinner ~$20. edit, it is just past the monorail station as you head into DTD
CambodianDrywall replied:
I'm a big fan of Catal. Their paellas are fantastic. They have a full bar. And if the weather is tolerable - you can dine on their patio. Since the restaurant is on the 2 nd floor you have a great view of all the folks meandering through Downtown Disney.

Tangaroa terrace by the pool has good food! Relaxing vibe outside too

Personally, food around Anaheim can be good, if your adventurous. Garden Grove has amazing Vietnamese food, Fullerton has some pretty good places (pizza place on the corner of Harbor and Commonwealth is pretty awesome)...
luckysevs replied:
Not necessarily what youre looking for, but get the Thanksgiving sandwich at Earl of Sandwhich at some point
EXTREMlS replied:
our last stay at the park resulted in Del Taco one night and Little Ceasars pizza the next. definitely on the cheap side but a fresh hot Pizza Pie or Taco's seem to taste better when sitting in a hotel room.
Cptnruthless replied:
Carnitas burger at White Water Snacks. Hands down my favorite burger at the parks! From DTD follow the signs to the Napa rose, make a right and take it all the way down, past the spa.
cpt-cam replied:
Trader Sam's if you don't mind your meal being on the lighter side. The atmosphere and drinks are awesome, and I did like my Hawaiian BBQ flatbread I had! :) It is limited seating, and self seating, so keep that in mind if you're trying to go during a busier time.
Anyone recommend a nice quaint hotel near Disneyland that isn't too expensive?

CANDYCANE INN!!!!!

The Camelot Inn, hands down. So insanely close for walking into the park! Very worth it. Just stayed there this week and had a great experience!

I've stayed at the Riviera a couple of times. Definitely not fancy, but it was clean and conveniently located. About .75 mile walk to the park gates, which was doable even after spending all day on your feet in the parks. The complimentary "breakfast" was definitely lacking, though. (A few packaged pastries, Costco mini muffins and mini donuts, coffee, juice, and some fruit.) Last time I stayed there, which was a couple of years ago, it was about $75/night. It looks like they're currently $105-125/night.

On my most recent trip this past April, I stayed at the Quality Inn & Suites Maingate for $70/night. Rooms were more updated than at the Riviera, and the breakfast was definitely much better. (Sausage, eggs, waffle maker, plus your standard assortment of pastries and cereals. And coffee and juices, of course.) My only real complaint is it was a bit further from the park - about 1.25 mile walk to the gates. Though you could also buy a shuttle pass at the front desk for either $5 or $5.50/day (I honestly don't recall which), which I ended up taking advantage of after my first day in the parks. Full disclosure, this was one of those "Here's a super-cheap rate, so we won't tell you which hotel you're booking at until you make and pay for your reservation!" deals on Priceline. And it looks like their rates are almost double what I paid right now to book directly.

Of course, prices will depend on when you're going.

We always do Good Nite Inn in Buena Park. It's not far away at all, and a good deal since parking is included in our passes. My BFF stays at Motel 6 Anaheim and takes the shuttle into the park.
Good_Eatin replied:
My favorite hotel is the Best Western Park Place that someone mentioned, but as far as quaint and cute I think the Anabella would be your best bet. It's just a little further away.
When I went this past May, we stayed at Desert Palm through getawaytoday. It was pretty nice, free parking, and within walking distance - though that walk was killer at the end of the day. They upgraded our room to a suite upon early check in (early check in was extra, the upgrade was not) and the beds were extremely comfortable. The only thing I didn't like was the lighting in the room and the unairconditioned hallways (the rooms were airconditioned obviously). For our upcoming trip, we are trying out Howard Johnson's to see if it's slightly closer. Otherwise, we would stay at Desert Palm again.

We always do Motel 6...shuttle stops there and it's nice for the price.

It's not "quaint" but we stayed at the new Hyatt last year. Super nice! Great breakfast and the room was awesome! About $170 / night but we were sleeping five.

I stayed at the Anaheim Majestic Garden. Clean, close enough to get to the park, about a 10 minute walk.

We've stayed at the Best Western Plus Park Place Inn. Right across the street. Free breakfast at the adjacent Captain Kidd's Buffet (average but free). I am a proponent of leaving the park midday to take a break from the crowded/hot parks and rest. This place has a great location for that.

Red Lion is on Groupon. I've never stayed there but maybe someone on Reddit has an opinion on it. The price seems great.

Marriott by the convention center us very nice and also decently cheap.

Alamo Inn was my go-to before moving to OC. It was easily walking distance (through the Grand Californian) but since security has changed it might be a longer walk now. Prices can vary depending on season and day of the week but the parking is free plus a hot tub/pool for relaxing at the end of the day.
Can anyone recommend me a website where I can find a hotel room in SF for a reasonable price?
Alyssa D. replied:
Expedia and Priceline and hotels.com all literally mirror the same price as the hotels best offered rate. The only time you'll ever see a potential discount is if you do some kind of car + hotel + air fare deal. You're better off going directly to the hotels.
Does anyone know the name and history about the hotel that's on Katella ave. And Haster in Anaheim? It's now called The Arena Inn.
Sandra P. replied:
Caravan Inn
Arthur A. replied:
It use to be called The Caravan Inn, unfortunately as a kid I loved there for a few months in the early 80's.......there used to be an ON DEMAND cable documentary about the place
