I was head technician at a Vet hospital in Des Moines for 12 years. I also worked in one in Ankeny. I will tell you that the spay clinic on 14 th is fine for vaccinations and fecal checks, but I would not trust for anything serious. In that case, you get what you pay for. I take my 4 dogs to MacRae Park in Des Moines, To me it is worth the drive. Dr. Knoebel is wonderful. Their surgical procedures are great. They do not vaccinate for things not needed (bordetella), and don't do labs that aren;t needed (fecals) if your dogs stay at home and don't go to boarding or grooming facilities. Some vets in Ankeny insist that your pets get "everything" done. Well, I am here to tell you that is to pad their wallets. MacRae's staff is great ( I have worked with 2 of them), and their prices can't be beat. The other clinic would be Grand Avenue Vet Clinic with Dr. Sue Robinson and Dr. Christy Wauhob. They are both very well known vets. and are great. Their prices are a bit higher than MacRae Park. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

Ankeny Animal and Avian Clinic is a great place to go. They have been so great with my dogs and I'd never go anywhere else. My dog gets excited when we pull in the parking lot because he loves them.

Ankeny Vet Clinic. All the docs are great but my primary and favorite is Dr. Dennis Riordan. He has seen one of my dogs thru many horrific events/illnesses, including pancreatitis, cat bite, and removing splintered ham bone from his colon (NOT given by me!), and currently treating for thyroid, Cushing's and SARDS. It's like he has 9 lives, thanks to Dr. Riordan. I would drive a very long distance to go to him, luckily I don't have to. Quite refreshing from our former vet who could only ever say "I don't know." Well I don't pay for "I don't know." Dr. Riordan KNOWS!

Say NO to Creature Comforts! They are so money-driven its sickening. I LOVE Dr Stacey at Heart of Ankeny (515) 635-0095. Dr. Stacey is amazing...and my bonkers dog adores her!

I second the person who said Adel Vet Clinic. I lived in Adel for 5 years and after my move to Ankeny.. I couldn't imagine switching! They are seriously so wonderful and caring. Worth the drive to take your pets to people who love them as much as you do!

Healing Paws. Doc Rouser has been such a godsend. I have a dog with severe anxiety issues, and another with sensitive stomach issues in addition to a staph infection that was challenging to get rid of. He and the technicians and his family (it's a family clinic!) take such good care of my animals. He talks so I can understand what the problem is and gives options and describes possible treatments and outcomes. So comforting when we're just needing routine shots and more so when I'm worried about my doggies!

Adel Vet Clinic! We receive such wonderful personal care there! I know it's a drive, but I want the best for my pets! The staff is so helpful and the docs are the tops! Pet boarding as well. Tell them Jethro's mom sent you.

Dr. Dotzenrod, Ankeny Animal Health is the best! Wouldn't think of going elsewhere.

When Farm in Maxwell, it is really not to bad of a drive from Ankeny. Their prices are way below what you will pay at any Ankeny Vet. He doesn't male you do all the extras that are not necessary. Highly recommend!

I'll give another vote for Dr. Dotzenrod at Ankeny Animal Health Clinic - he's so great with our two cats and takes time to answer all our questions, which as a first-time pet owner was very important to me!

I take my dogs to Creature Comforts in Ankeny. All the drs are great. And they are open 7 days a week 8-8 so never have to take time off work for vet appointments.

Spay Clinic is cheap. East side on SE 14 th. Just took my dog there and they did a great job extracting 9 teeth. Recovered beautifully.

I’m sure it’s because they are open longer hours & 7 Days a week where most other vets do not have those flexible hours. Like I said, they are good but they are expensive.

It's not in Ankeny, but All Pets Hospital is Great place. The veterinarian also trains dogs and some of her assistant's also have training experience. She also offers obedience classes. I got my puppy at 6 months and have taken her to All Pets Hospital since. She is very knowledgeable and helpful.
