If they are being eaten it's probably winter moths. You don't have to cut your trees down so I don't think you want Stumpys - it's too late to do anything but fertilize them this year but call someone next year to come out in the spring and manage them. Try Barlett Tree here in Ashland or Arbor.

Tree Specialists. It is winter moth and they come out in spray in April/May. At this point, the leaves will fall off and be replaced with new ones. Needs to be done in the spring.
