I really couldn't recommend Dr. Amy Kuhmichael enough. https://www.jawsoms.com/meet-us/dr-amy-kuhmichel/ They have offices in West Midtown and Sandy Springs.
I had 4 fully impacted teeth removed this spring during the quarantine. I visited multiple doctors (including the above mentioned Dr. Rockwell) who all did not feel comfortable removing my bottom teeth as they were somewhat close to a nerve ending.
Dr. Kuhmichael felt comfortable doing the procedure. I did go under anesthesia, but it was a quick and efficient process. Later that day I had recovered full feeling in my face, and recovered much quicker than normal.
My main concerns were around nerve issues as some doctors did not want to take the lower teeth out. I experience no issues.
I had no issues with insurance covering it.
I also got this recommendation from a Partner at a Law Firm who used her for her children. It gave me more confidence that this was the best option in Atlanta.

Dr. Rockwell of Rockwell Oral & Facial Surgery did my wisdom teeth extraction back in March. My regular dentist recommended him. It’s a small practice — he’s the only surgeon on staff I believe — and everyone there was super nice. Office is very modern and nice. I have OK dental insurance, but I found the cost way more affordable than I expected. I paid like $350 total for the consultation, surgery and follow up for four extractions with general anesthesia. Would have been less if I did local, but if you’re nervous do the general—you won’t remember a thing!

Dr. Drew at Emory. At 44 years old I got an impacted wisdom tooth removed and minor jaw surgery. Dr. Drew was awesome. She walked me through everything, answered all my questions and was generally concerned with me on my follow-up visits.

I recommend Peachtree-Dunwoody Oral and Facial Surgery. I had Dr Shenan Bradshaw and she took 4 of my wisdom out in the same day. They were impacted. Felt no pain and recovery went well. No major swelling. Dr Amy Kuhmichel also works there and has good reviews. Dr Glenn Maron works there as well.

So, I've had two extractions at https://www.drjoycelee.com/ - one with Dr. Lee and one with another dentist in the practice. The procedure was fine on both cases, and I healed well. Dr. Lee's s bedside manner was very off-putting to me, enough that I probably won't choose to go back if I needed to. The care was absolutely fine though. I don't know how costs compare to other offices.

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Piyush Patel (practice name is Perimeter Oral Surgery) in Dunwoody. Used him twice (once for getting teeth pulled for braces in 2012 and once in 2015 for getting all 4 wisdom teeth out). Super friendly with a calming bedside manner, as is his staff. He gives you the option to do procedures under full anesthesia, partial anesthesia, or fully awake with numbing medicine. Both times, I elected to do it at least partially awake and the procedure was still painless and over super quick. His office staff even called me and sent me a card to make sure I was healing. His office number is 770-559-3648
Shortlemon4 replied:
If you can you should opt for general anesthesia. My sister didn’t get to go under and she still remembers how painful it was. But I opted to be put to sleep and it was a breeze. They knock you out, rip your wisdom teeth out, and you wake up painless because they hop you full of pain meds.

Dr Martin Velez with Atlanta Oral and Facial Surgery handled mine and it was great. I had 2 impactions but we went ahead and removed all 4 wisdom teeth. www.atlantaoralsurgery.com For what it's worth....this is a very routine and fairly simple surgery. Worst part was having gauze in my mouth for a few days. Pain was minimal and less than I had from the impaction itself.

Dr Glenn Maron, he was the Thrashers surgeon so you know he’s good LOL He also does the Braves and Falcons. If you need more credentials he was the athlete’s oral surgeon during the Olympics here. He did my wisdom teeth and I have nothing bad to say about the surgery or recovery. Mine were impacted also.
shelly__bean replied:
Mine were all impacted too. I went to Dr. Thomas Osborne in Tucker and it was a much better experience than I was expecting. He used a twilight anesthesia, so I blinked and it was all over. Not much pain afterwards either, but that might vary from person to person. Dr. Osborne was also really friendly and put me at ease. Good luck!

Dr. Andrew Aiken at Oral Surgery Specialists of Atlanta in Vinings. A-mazing. Based on the way they treated me when I got my wisdom teeth out I tried to see if I could make them my regular dentist, but alas they only do surgeries.

Buckhead Smile Center. I went there after living for 9 years in poverty and not having gone to the dentist once. They told me I had to do a deep clean and I was terrified it was going to be super painful. While it was still an uncomfortable experience the nurse cleaning my teeth did a fabulous job at being as gentle as possible and they even gave me a Rudolph doll to squeeze the shit out of. Everyone there treats you really well and make it as comfortable as possible. Good luck!

Dr. Patel at "Perimeter Oral and Facial Surgery" handled the extraction for my implant. I had a jaw infection and I had to work with him for months to get new bone to grow. He did the extraction and the following bone graft. His work is top notch.
My wisdom teeth were taken out YEARS ago. They were severely impacted and were growing almost horizontal. Surgery used general anesthesia and there was discomfort during recovery -- but it was manageable.
Here is my advice: You will probably be prescribed some sort of opioid (usually some kind of Hydrocodone) to aid with pain. You'll have a limited number of those pills (8 to 12) to tide you by. Try* to use regular NSAIDS (Ibuprofin, etc...) during the day, and save the strong stuff for bedtime when you need to get some sleep. Hopefully, you'll only need 2 or 3 of those pills.
They will tell you to put ice on your jaw and neck for a couple days after surgery. They are not kidding here. This will do two things for you --- it will help with the initial pain, and it will help keep you from having god awful bruising.
There is no need to be scared about this. If you don't address your issue, you'll be in more pain than you will get with this procedure.
*Pain sensitivity is different for everyone, so my advice may be helpful in the end, or not...
primarygrub replied:
Just about any oral surgeon removing wisdom teeth will be using general anesthesia. Therefore pain during the procedure shouldn’t be a concern. The only pains you would have would be soreness during recovery, assuming you follow all post op instructions like eating soft foods, no smoking, drinking through a straw that could result in dry sockets. That said, my wife had a great experience with [Dr. Brady at Oral Surgery Associates](https://www.georgia-oms.com/). Surgery was less than 45 min maybe, on a Friday and was back at work on Monday.

Great experience with Dr Loetscher in Alpharetta. *Zero* pain or issues in recovery whatsoever, but I have a high pain threshold. I received Percocet (oxycodone/apap) for pain, which is a significant step up from hydrocodone, but I only took it one day and saved the rest for a rainy day. Didn't really need them in the first place. Of course this was 17 years ago. They might be stingier now.
Shockingly_corrupt replied:
Dr. Marks over in Buckhead was great. https://www.peachtreeoms.com/ There is a pain management option now where they inject some slow acting anesthetic at the extraction sites. My insurance company subsidized it as way to reduce the amount of opiates doctors prescribe. iirc it still cost me a few hundred dollars extra, and I was still given some vicodin. It was 100% worth it. I woke up in no pain and felt completely fine for several days. I started taking the vicodin around day 4 or 5 and ended up with a constant dull ache for several days after that, but from what I was expecting it was a _much_ better experience. Seriously was completely pain free for days after surgery.
