Anyone know of a place that trains aggressive dogs to be nice? I have a rescue dog that is about 5 years old, she takes things and protects them. She'll snap at anyone...

Check out Envy My Dog! I’ve worked with Chelsea before and they are absolutely great.

OP, I just want to say thank you for recognizing the need for training and asking for help, as opposed to surrendering the dog (or waiting for something bad to happen). It really shows how much you love the pup and want her to have a healthy relationship with your family. Major props for being proactive, she's lucky to have you :)

Look up counter conditioning. You need to train the dog's brain to react differently to triggers. Armed with that information you should be able to pick a good one. Stay away from punishment training.

Usually a situation like what you're describing takes equal amounts of "training" the pet owner as it does training the dog. To change the dog's behavior, you'll probably also need to change your relationship dynamic so that the dog accepts that you or the baby have the "right" to take their toys or food away. The good thing is that resource guarding is a fairly common issue, so there's a lot of info out there. We had a fairly reactive foster dog and worked with Halo K9 educators, and a 2 hour session she was like a totally different dog. https://www.facebook.com/halok9 educators/

We used Christina Dore at Peachtree Dog Training. She is great and has a ton of experience with aggressive dogs!

[https://frogstodogs.com/](https://frogstodogs.com/) We really liked working with this group. They're not cheap, but they do have focused training on aggression.

i got help from www.caninerelations.com but it was maybe ten years ago?
i had them do the Home Environment Boarding, where your dog stays in a trainer’s home for a couple of weeks while they work on things.
i specifically chose them because they were well recommended for aggressive dogs. my dog wasn’t hurting anyone (or even snapping) but he was very strong and refused to listen AT ALL before he went “to camp.”
after his time there was up, i met up with the trainer and the hand off included me being taught how to handle him. i was also able to call them for a while afterwards if i had questions or concerns.
i got lucky and didn’t need follow up, but i would have been happy to keep using them if i did need to.
i believe the specific trainer i had was named Parker- he was incredibly nice and my dog loved him.

With my dog it was simply a matter of taking things away from her and having her sit prior to meals. Any growl would be rewarded with the loss of the item for a few minutes.

The CCPDT is a great resource to help find certified canine behaviorists. Just a warning though, severe resource guarding can be expensive so don’t be surprised by expense. https://www.ccpdt.org/dog-owners/certified-dog-trainer-directory/
Does anyone know a dog trainer personally in the Atlanta area I might apprentice with? Or a dog training program? (Please don't comment if you are just guessing, thanks.)
