Waynette P. replied:
I've had a number of doctors throughout the nearly 30 years since my JRA dx in 1984. From the pediatric rheumatologist who diagnosed me, Dr. Murray Passo, formerly of Riley Hosp. for Children in Indianapolis & now at MUSC in Charleston, SC; to my former rheumatologist, Dr Twining at Carolina Neurology & Rheumatology in Myrtle Beach, SC; as well as those who make up my current healthcare team: my pain doctor, Dr. C. Gregory Kang at Pain Spine & Sports Medicine in Myrtle Beach as well as his nurse practitioner, Stacy Alger, both of whom seek to keep my pain as controlled as possible; my orthotist, Dr Alex Lyons of Lyons Prosthetics & Orthotics in Conway, SC, who quite literally keeps me on my feet; my NP who takes care of my rheumatology and internal medicine needs, Candyce McLeod at South Strand Internists in Surfside Beach, SC; my wound care doctor, who keeps my small wounds from becoming major problems, Dr Metz at Next Step Wound Care in Murrells Inlet, SC; and last, but definitely not least, the staff at both GSRMC and Conway Manor who cared for me during a 3 year period of my body rebelling worse than it normally does with my multiple dx'es, especially my PT at Conway Manor, Jim, who did what doctors said was not at all likely to happen and got me walking again. If I knew Jim was going to be my PT, I could easily agree to anything requiring a lot of PT because I know he'd push me like I need pushed, but not go too far and throw me into a flare. To be honest, even some of the really bad doctors have helped shape me in that I swore I'd NEVER allow myself to be treated as they treated me ever again.
Kirsten S. replied:
Dr Christie Bartels and her NP Kathy Phillips-Reimer in Madison, WI, are the best team I've ever encountered. Kathy is especially amazing, because she listens, really cares, and can take more time with patients than Christie can due to appointment overload and the shortage of rheumys. They are literally lifesavers and I'm blessed to have them in my life.
Kathy M. replied:
My son's first Rheumy was amazing!! Dr. Paul Demarco, Georgetown University (He left us to teach more Rheumys)
Janet T. replied:
Yes, my Rheumatolgist in Albuquerque NM is wonderful. She is caring and always takes the time to listen. My first Rheumatolgist dismissed me saying my hands were not swollen enough to have an autoimmune disease, yet my numbers were very high, Dr. Nunez `took more tests and then talked to me about having to be aggressive in my fight against RAD. I am grateful to have her in my life.
Trisha E. replied:
Dr. Kathryn Coulson at SLUcare (St. Louis University) has been good for me so far. She was able to diagnose me after other doctors, including a rheumatologist, failed to do so. I can tell that she has a lot of patients to see, but she generally spends as much time as needed to listen to my concerns and take care of business. One thing I really appreciate about her is that she was willing to add methotrexate to my treatment plan when plaquenil wasn't helping-and that makes me feel confident that she would be willing to use other DMARDS if methotrexate doesn't do the trick. I have primary Sjogren's syndrome, and it can be very difficult to get any treatment other than plaquenil and NSAIDS. I have severe, quality of life altering symptoms as well as kidney involvement.
Ivette S. replied:
Yes, Dr Kelly O Weselman (Rheumatology) and Dr Ellen Coggeshall (OB/GYN). Two great physicians!!!
Jenny P. replied:
Dr. Randall Johnson in The Woodlands, TX is a serious rheumatologist. He takes a lot of time with me and never dismisses my pain. He always listens to me and comes up with an action plan, even while we are waiting for a biological or a DMRD to actually work. He has tried various bridge medications so that I am not in agony while we try to find something to stop the disease. Thank you for working so hard, Dr. Johnson!
Carol B. replied:
Dr Alan Fishman in Atlanta and Dr Talat Kheshgi in Dallas
Marigen V. replied:

Danielle M. replied:
Soumya Chattergee, Elisa Ross, Colleen Raymond and Michael Smolak at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Joseph Baker, DO at Cleveland's Metrohealth Rehabilitation Pavilion gave me back my life and got me on track with rheumatology.
Richard C. replied:
