Maybe the roosevelt Third Place Books? It's a used bookstore with an attached cafe and restraint. Just north of the Udistrict.

My first thought was Allegro, but it's not a bookstore - though it kind of gave me that vibe the few times I've been in. Definitely near UW, right? Because Ada's is the next most obvious choice, but no one would call that "near UW".

Its probably Ada's. That place is great. And super well lit! You could do surgery in there!

In Temple, TX, don't miss Whitetale Books just off the access road in front if HOBBY LOBBY. On the square in Belton, TX, you can't beat MCWHA BOOKS. Both offer personalized customer service & sell both old & new books & support local authors & causes!!!

Front Street Books in Alpine is a first-class, full-service independent bookstore, not to be missed if you're coming through the Big Bend area. The Marfa Book Company in the next town over is nice, too.

Brazos Bookstore in Houston is one of my favorites. The Blue Willow Bookshop on Memorial is also wonderful. When I was growing up, I loved Pat's Bookstore in Pasadena (I think). Unfortunately Pat's closed a long time ago.
