throwaway for privacy reasons: She is not a native English speaker, but I had a very good experience with Frau Peters (www.psychotherapiefriedenau.de) and can recommend her. If you have the right insurance like I had, you won't have to pay anything. For what it's worth I found her on [https://www.therapie.de/](https://www.therapie.de/). Hope that helps too.

You can search for therapists [here.](https://www.kvberlin.de/60arztsuche/schnellsuchep.html) It lists what methods they use, what languages they speak, and if they take insurance. As far as I know, it is nearly impossible to get an appointment with a therapist that takes public health insurance. However, you can apply for reimbursement. Here's a [guidebook.](http://www.bptk.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Publikationen/BPtK_Infomaterial/Kostenerstattung/bptk_reimbursement.pdf)
You need a list of 5 therapists who cannot see you, a signed Dringlichkeitsbescheinigung from a doctor (copies available online, just google), and a form from a therapist who takes public insurance that can see you for a Sprechstunde. It's best if you find a therapist who has available slots (and therefore doesn't take public insurance) and work with them to put together this package.
I don't know how long the process takes, but you could pay a few private sessions while you wait if you need to.

If you can pay yourself then do that for sure. Otherwise you’ll be waiting a while. Also means you won’t have to go through all the hoop jumping to get a therapy in a first place. It costs around 100€ a session if it’s done privately. Would also move away from only looking around Prenzlauer Berg and kotti if you haven’t already.

Finding a therapist in Berlin within reasonable distance from were you live and without waiting for months can be quite a feat for native German speakers already, so this won’t be as easy as getting a recommendation for a good dentist, but you’ll be fine.
There’s two ways to get your therapy covered by TK (or any other government health insurance really):
First look for english speaking therapists at the [Kassenärztliche Vereinigung website](https://www.kvberlin.de/60arztsuche/detailsuchep.html
) and just start calling them to see if they’ve still got space. Leave voicemails if you can, don’t bother emailing, most of them will just ignore those. Call at least ten of them, write down who and when you called, and note if there’s space, the wait times you might get or if they called you back at all. If there is space, set up a first date and see if you like them. If you do, congratulations, you’ve found yourself a therapist that your insurance will cover without further questions.
However, if you don’t find anyone or don’t like who you found you can go with the private option which is a bit more tricky but works as well. For this go to [therapie.de](https://www.therapie.de/psychotherapie/-ergebnisse-/?ort=10437&sprache=3) (Fremdsprachen>Englisch)
and do the same. It’s very likely you’ll find someone for a first appointment way quicker. Take your list from your first search and tell them you want to apply for “Kostenerstattung”. You need ten therapists on there that you called who either had no space, ignored your message or gave you waiting times of more than three months. If you got that, there’s a few more forms to fill out and you'll have to go to your GP to get them signed, but the therapist will explain all the details. The application then needs to get approved by your insurance, which it will if all your forms are in order. Again, hooray, your therapy will be covered by TK.
pm me if you need any help with this.

[psych-info.de](http://www.psych-info.de) allows you to search for English-language therapists by address. (Language prefrence is under "Erweiterte Suche" – the interface is German-only, but you should be able to get the hang of it with a dictionary.) I'm not sure whether there are any therapists that have a special deal with TK – usually, doctors will offer the same services for all Krankenkassen members. (And another set of services for private patients.)
EFAwsom replied:
You can call / email TK to find out. They can give you a list. Not sure if they have specific ones for English speaking therapist, but worth a try. Also mind that TK only covers certain type of therapy, so you might check out what they cover as well.

That's a tricky one. I'd suggest checking the website of the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung and searching for the keyword "English". If you are willing to pay by the hour, there are tons that are not covered by public insurance.
