Check out Birmingham Wholesale Furniture in Southside. Also, there is Royal Furniture in Hoover.

Oak Tree in Pelham is great for solid wood items. You also might have luck with some of the stores in downtown Bessemer.

Alabama furniture market in alabaster (about 20 min south of bham down I65) is amazing. If you pick up the furniture you dont have to pay tax. Great selection in store but you can custom order items. Best prices we could find on decent couches.

If you're up for a bit of a drive, my wife and I shop at Jackie of all Trades in Tuscaloosa. We purchased a whole living room set from there and they delivered to us in Huntsville. 3 years and 2 70 lb+ golden retrievers later and it's still holding up like a champ (especially the couch which gets abused more than it should)

Atlantic Bedding in Pelham.

I'd recommend TD's Fine Furniture in Sumiton, AL. www.tdsoutlet.com It's a bit of a drive but they have a very wide selection and a huge warehouse. Almost everything on their floor they have in stock (at least in my experience). They do carry Ashley brand for the lower end and then tons of other brands and styles.
Looking for a decent local furniture store. Been to rooms to go, sticks and stuff, and lazy boy. Any other suggestions?

Ashley Furniture. We bought a sectional there for about $1600. Love it!
Ashley F. replied:
Try Encore Resales in Pelham. They have some really nice stuff. We had a terrible experience with Ashley Furniture.
Buffy B. replied:
You may want to try The Depot Architectural Antiques in Bessemer. They might can make something for you. I don't know if they make tables but I have seen them make headboards out of old barn doors. Unique pieces. I haven't been out there yet but have wanted to check it out myself:-). Encore resales would be another good place.

Alabama Furniture Market. For sure. It's in calera but worth the drive.
Maaike V. replied:
Big Lots, had to say it:B Seriously though, we carry Ashley and United furniture for better prices than their outlets.
Can anyone recommend any good used furniture stores in town that will pay cash for used furniture?
Shirley H. replied:
George - residential or commercial? The margin and resale value of most used residential furniture is extremely low. And most places that are selling used have thin margins - consignment only. If you are disposing of a relative's effects, C.K. Estate sales do very effective sales. But they will sell for you and take a portion of the sales. if you have antiques, and are doing a yard sale, pickers will go over the lot and pick up anything of value and start passing it up the resale chain. For commercial, with a decently large lot, call Lindsey's Resale Office Furniture to see if they are interested. If small lot, one of the used furniture places will buy stock at salvage rate.
