Lynne Rene-Elizabeth Hampton, my Toby was a shelter rescue. He was exposed to a feline Corona virus that ended up "mutating" to feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), which is a terminal diagnosis. He went from being a healthy, bouncing kitten who was the pesky little brother to my senior kitty, and the joy and life of the household, to being so sick that he wouldn't eat and just laid around. I was having to feed him with a syringe. That last morning when I was feeding him, Toby looked at me and I JUST KNEW. It was like he was pleading with me to let him go. We made the last trip to see Dr. Sheldon later that day, and I spent the time in between holding him and crying and telling him how much I loved him. Hardest thing I've had to do as a pet parent is to put a baby to sleep, but yes, I stayed with him to the very end.:(
