Anyone have Vet and farrier recommendations for Northern Oakland County (particularly Ortonville/Clarkston area)? Back when I had a horse prior, my farrier was a flake....
Carrie M. replied:
we use Evan Moore for our vet (248) 628-7004, as for farriers, I watched this fellow do 2 horses at the barn, and I liked how he worked, but Tommy hasn't needed another trim yet. Steve (810) 542-3705.
Carrie M. replied:
(p.s. Carolyn uses Dr. Moore. Her farrier is good, but he charges $50 for a trim!)
Carrie M. replied:
also, fwiw, I used Dr. Moore way back in the way when I had my TB mare. I like the fact that he will answer all questions, and is accepting of alternative treatments such as herbal remedies, homeopathy, et al. He doesn't practice them, but is open to them, if that makes sense,.
Jill B. replied:
I haven't used them myself but I heard the vet is VERY good with the animals, but has a rough bedside manner. STATE ROAD VETERINARY CLINIC Veterinary clinic in Davison, MI

Got this from a friend Tell your friend looking for a ferrier Tim & Koren Knox, Koren's cell is 248-431-3775. They're the ones that fixed Cupids hoof, very good and very reasonable

Clarkston Animal Medical Center is our vet. We didn't shop around because we've been with them since 2001 with 3 different dogs. We trust them. Vets changed some time back, we're still happy. We've been through a lot with them.

Not looking to start a debate about breeding dogs. but I'm wanting some peer support for breeding and welping a litter of puppies. I need a good vet recommendation....
I know I have asked this before but what is the best and affordable vet in the area?
Rachel W. replied:

Jamie E. replied:
Clarkston Animal Medical Center has great prices and works well with my dogs. They will also do home visits.
Ashley E. replied:
I just switched from Clarkston Animal Medical Center to Parker Vet in Oxford. I have a 7 month old puppy and started taking her to CAMC when we first got her at 9 weeks. It was OK, until it took me 2.5 months of me going in every 3 weeks (for shots) and me telling them that she urinates A LOT. I said I think she might have a bladder infection and every time they said "well, puppies pee a lot so it's probably nothing". I finally demanded a urine analysis and it turned out she had a severe bladder infection. It took 2 rounds of antibiotics to cure it. We just went to see Dr Holly at Parker Vet this weekend and I must say, I was extremely happy with my experience. He is such a kind and thorough vet. We will be staying with Dr Holly for now on.

I have been going to Baylis Animal Hospital in Ortonville for years, they're very good and resonable.
We take our dog to North Oaks Animal Hospital on Clarkston at Baldwin. We freaking LOVE our vet Dr. Ransom, she even made a home visit for almost no extra charge when we had a late night issue with our puppy. Always available by cell, great office hours, great staff.

I have been using Dr Mark at North Oakland Visiting Vet for about 15 years. He is great!
Cherie M. replied:
Dr. Pytel only makes you get what is absolutely needed. He is in Goodrich but worth the drive.
Beverly W. replied:
Pytel Vet in Goodrich. Dr covert is our favorite but Dr Pytel is equally great as well
Sara H. replied:
Wilson vet is great for bigger issues with your dog. They have more of a hospital atmosphere and lots of dr.'s. Parker Vet in downtown Oxford is affiliated. Smaller with less services. But both have best pricing I have ever seen. It's due to all of the vets in the Wilson vet practice being affiliated bigger practice lower prices.
Danielle S. replied:
Definitely All About Animals. The savings is amazing

My 5yr old Lab is in need of knee surgery. I've been told that my current Vet is one of the most expensive. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced Vet to perform this...
Angela W. replied:
Parker vet in oxford! Dr. Holly is awesome!! He is offilicated with wilson vet. Great prices and great people!
Allison F. replied:
Dr. Wilson Animal Hospital Sterling Heights. Our dog needed hip surgery. Best prices and care around. They also have a sliding fee scale for seniors. Highly recommend this place. It is where the pet rescues go for surgery!!
Erin W. replied:
If you're willing to travel contact Dr.Hook in Owosso. He was referred to me by a friend (a farmer with many pets). I called him asking his opinion on my dogs knee surgery and he gave me all natural remedies to try first and they worked! My dog is 11 and getting around just fine after what his vet was telling me would be basically full knee surgery/replacement.
Becky M. replied:
I have no idea if prices are better or not; but Dr Steep in Oxford is the best vet around!
Justine H. replied:
I would try Wilson in Romeo as well as Oxford Veterinary Clinic in Oxford, Dr. Steep.

Depending on the breed, it could be common. I have a bulldog, and that is just one of the many co-morbidities they are prone to having. I would highly recommend Dr. Wilson at Wilson Vet Hospital in Romeo or their office on Van Dyke in Sterling Heights.
