Looking for a new vet. My ideal vet would be proactive with new research, prescribe treatment based on least harm vs what rep came by this week, great with rescue dogs,...
Matt S. replied:
Here is a list, but our vet is Dr. Pernell at Laurel Park Animal Hospital. We have also used Pisgah Pet Care and Riversong (great, too). Over the last 16 years, these 3 have helped us, and we can't think of one bad experience. http://ncpawsinmotion.com/Local_Animal_Hospitals.html

Lab testing in house, etc.... Western Carolina Animal Hospital in Flat Rock. Was tired of waiting days for lab results, being told to take my dog to the specialist in Greenville etc., by the local vets. These people at WNCAH are top notch. Give em a try! The 25 minute drive was worth it.

Riversong Veterinary Clinic hands down
Margaret C. replied:
Dr. Jull at Etowah Valley Veterinary. Not only does urinalysis but can also centrifuge urine to collect sediment to analyze crystals under a microscope. Will write paper scripts. Only sells products that he believes are safe. Also he continued his Veterinary education and specialized in oncology.

Can anyone recommend a good veterinarian in the area?
Cara B. replied:
Sarah Brown is excellent 828-8914848. Health care for pets.
Nataly R. replied:
Animals of Eden. Loved Laural Park Animal Hospital but was way to far to drive from Cedar Mtn. Dr. McPherson is wonderful! We just had Bailey spayed ( 5 months old) and it was done internally- no cone of shame!
Christina B. replied:
Mark Thompson at Brevard Animal Hosp. He's been the vet for all my dogs during the past 19 years. He's done so much for my pets, very compassionate and presents all your options and supports you in your choice. Most recently my latest dog needed surgery, and he worked with me about the cost...which can be a serious problem when you are facing surgery. Brevard is full of great vets. I don't think you'll go wrong, no matter who you choose.
Nataly R. replied:
If your pets just need shots and not a check up or medical care know that Tractor Supply in Brevard does this at really reasonable rates. They also do micro chipping and rattle snake shots.

Dr Julie McCormack is the only vet I know of at PPC
Angela H. replied:
I'm all about Brevard Animal Hospital because I worked there & know they are awesome. I do know people who say Animals R Us in Flat Rock has good prices. If you get in a financial bind, be sure to call the Humane Society. They often pay for exams when necessary.
Adrianna H. replied:
Brevard Animal hospital is great!!
Kirsten B. replied:
Mills River Animal Clinic. Jenny is the best. 15 minutes from Brevard.
Donna H. replied:
Western Carolina Vet Emergency Hospital for both regular services and emergencies, saved one of my dog's life and gives awesome regular care
Sash K. replied:
Dr. Ann Davis Holshouser at Riversong Vet is the best vet I have EVER had. Incredible. Great and competitive prices. She went above and beyond with my dogs - even shipping my dog's holistic medications to me when I ran out and couldn't get to Brevard to get them... Because, yes, she is so good that when I moved to Asheville I continued to drive back to Brevard for my dogs to see her as she is the only vet I have ever trusted 100%
Angela H. replied:
In my experience the Humane Society always wanted a call before hand to approve anything. There is something called Care Credit we had at BAH. It's a credit card that has no interest if you pay it off on time. You can probably pull it up on line now & apply. It only takes a few minutes to find out if you are approved. As far as appointments, Brevard Animal Hospital opens at 8 am. If you walked in then, with your situation, I'm sure they would work you in between appointments. Vets always deal with emergency walk ins.
Donna H. replied:
Several friends have Care Credit and have used it at vets and for their own medical and dental costs
Christina B. replied:
I've used Mark Thompson at BAH for close to 20 years. He is a caring and knowledgeable vet, and uses sound judgment in helping you choose a course of treatment reasonably within your budget. Hes always been my first choice, has worked with me when I needed help, and has meticulous attention to detail. You don't have to use any particular emergency hospital regardless of which vet you choose. You can go wherever you need to. We are blessed in this area with fine veterinary care, and I'm sure your dog will be fine wherever you choose to go.
Morgan W. replied:
Doctor Fred Rosen at Western Carolina Regional Animal Hospital in Flatrock. Take my dogs there and Fred is the best vet I have ever had. I've tried Riversong, Animals of Eden, and BAH. All are great, but Doctor Rosen explains things without being condescending and he is a very positive person who just really wants to help your dog, cat, whatever. They are also an emergency vet, but if you are a client there and you have to go after hours for something non emergency you don't get charged the emergency pricing. They also take Care Credit, which is a lifesaver!
Sylvia G. replied:
Animals Of Eden is wonderful, I was not pleased with the other vets. Dr. McPherson is wonderful and caring and is much more affordable than the other vets and he does not recommend that you take your animals to Reach as their prices are way to high.

Does anyone know of a vet in the area that will trim a dog's nails past the quick (under anaesthetic of course)? I don't mean a complete show trim or anything just need...
Leslie L. replied:
Check out this article... you can get the quick to recede over time without having to cut it... https://pethelpful.com/dogs/How-to-Make-a-Dogs-Quick-Recede A vet can help you with the process and you'll have it under control in no time with no pain or damage to your dog. :)

Justin S. replied:
Check out https://www.facebook.com/919637844794699 Tractor Supply Co. for their schedule on mobile shots.
Anna L. replied:
Animal shelter, then Tractor Supply has a shot cooler for the other ones. If you can't administer the shot, a local farmer or someone with medical experience can show you or perhaps do it for you. That's your cheapest out the door solution for full vaccination I've found.
Pat J. replied:
Tractor Supply. No office visit charge. Usually you have to have records that your pet has had at least one one-year rabies shot to get a three year. That's what it was in Florida. May be different here in NC
Sharon F. replied:
Laurel Park Vet
Donna H. replied:
Tractor Supply Co. Has Pet Care Supplies You Need. Your dog needs a vaccination, but that doesn't necessarily require a trip to the veterinarian. ... A veterinarian, however, must administer the rabies vaccine. This is what I found online
Jeff T. replied:
Brevard Animal hospital does just the shot for my cat and I don’t recall how much it is but I’m on a rather tight income and it didn’t seem to break the bank. Of course it could be because my cat is already and established patient but you might could check with them.

Dr. Mark Thompson at Brevard Animal Hosp. has cared for all 5 of our animal companions for the 10 yrs. we have lived in Brevard. He is absolutely the most knowledgable & most compassionate vet we have ever had in the many cities & states we have lived in. The other doctors at the clinic are all wonderful, as well, the techs are efficient, knowledgable & so kind with your animal, & the ladies at the front desk are the best. We actually enjoy every visit!

Jessica B. replied:
Try Junaluska Animal Hospital. AMAZING staff and they are a 24/7 emergency vet. That's where I took my dog after the neighbors shot him. They fixed up, are great ppl, and were 1/2 the price of REACH and WNC regional. I will never go to the other 2 again, had very bad experiences.
