Good therapists or counsellors in Bristol Hi everyone. Can anybody recommend good therapists in Bristol, specifically to deal with severe depression and anxiety? I have...

http://members.psychotherapy.org.uk/findATherapist This site. The way I went about looking was contacting about a dozen people, setting up some introductory meetings, and picking the best one out of that. It's often free and understood that the first meeting is like a trial run. Wasn't looking in Bristol at the time, but good luck. You're doing the right thing.

My gf is a counsellor - not taking clients, but I put your question to her. She suggested that, if you are considering psychotherapy you could go via the Severnside institute. They can do a consultation, and then refer you to an appropriate therapist: http://www.sipsychotherapy.org/therapy/therapist.html

How old are you? If you're 25 or under, [Off The Record](http://www.otrbristol.org.uk/) might be worth a look.

Any reason why not CBT? I used to have severe anxiety but a went to see a therapist in Bristol and I'm pretty much cured.

The church on St Marks's road in Easton (next to the Sugar loaf) is offering peer to peer counselling sessions (not religious, just organised as a community outreach thing.) I don't know if it's any good but it could be worth trying if you're looking for something that's not too formal. I think it's free as well.

I've seen a few and even did 2 years of psychotherapy training in Bath, so I've come across a lot of therapists in the area. My tl;dr is see as many for an initial session before you decide. There are a lot of great therapists in the area, some are specialised, some are cheaper (£35/session), some expensive (£60/session), some you will click with straight away, some will make you wonder why they ever went into the profession! Google should be enough to get you started. My personal favourite was a lady called Julia Gresty, she's into a more meditative approach. Good luck! Even just the act of going out into the world and asking for help is such a symbolic process.
