Hello Alumni peeps! My amazing friends Lindsey Marin and her husband own Canuckles here in Calgary and I would like to pass on some valuable information about their gym....
Linda M. replied:
I sent it as a message, please let me know if you got it. Max Marin was my first personal trainer. His training style at his gym is fast becoming recognized as one of the most effective ways to achieve quick results with the bonus of learning how to kick some butt! The facility is emmaculate and has everything you need including things you would never have thought of. I can honestly say that Lindsey and Max are two of the most down to earth people I know and they have always been a real pleasure to work with. It's nice to have options!!

Any of my beloved science/techno geeks know where one can obtain decibel reading equipment? What I'm looking for are systems that would be put into workout rooms in gyms...
Jamie R. replied:
What you are looking for is an SPL meter. As you'd said yourself, the measurement is highly dependent upon environmental factors, such as the positioning of the microphone, etc. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_pressure ) Interestingly enough there are a lot of apps available for ios/android that purport to do this, so you could try measuring this yourself at very little initial cost. (I've not tried this myself). I'd argue the hardest part of your proposed exercise would be in getting consensus on what constitutes a safe/reasonable level.
Sel H. replied:
I believe there is an app for that on your iphone! Check with Mike MacPhee.

There is an app, for android, called Noise Meterhttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details... and it logs events, and you can set the event Db level:-) can run on a cheap tablet...

I think Jason Lawrence can help you with this. And by "think" I mean I'm sure he can.
