The Civil War Museum at Fort Fisher is very interesting. And the aquarium is right there too. I live about four hours away but spend a lot of time down here and it's a lovely place.

We love going to the aquarium, we go every time we visit. As for places to eat, take the ferry to Southport. Lots of great eating places! Yacht Club Provisions Company is a favorite of ours. Also, make sure you go to the boardwalk in Carolina Beach and get some Britt's Donuts and Fudge Boat fudge and chocolate covered strawberries! (I would give housing recommendations, but the place we always stay is only a 3 bedroom.)

Bowmans and Big Daddys are great seafood places to eat also

I'm Canadian & been traveling to Kure Beach for the last 10 years. If the family enjoys a tranquil community, its the place to go. Freddie's is an excellent restaurant (italian food), Big Daddy's I personnaly do NOT recommend but their souvenir shop is fun. As for lodging, their are numerous big houses for rental. I personnaly rented the Prescription pad & was not satisfied with the upkeep of the place, eventhough the rental pictures really looked fantastic. I have developed a business relationship with Bluewater rental agency in Carolina Beach. If interested, simply ask for Cindy. As for things to do, Carolina Beach's boardwalk has an annual fair with rides (during summer time), Friday night movie at the Lake, Saturday morning Food market (Kure has one also). Its also fun to go to Wilmington and visit the battleship, snake museum & eat at the Pilot House or any restaurant along the Cape Fear river. Enjoy your vacation time!

Go to the Kure Pier and eat an ice cream cone. ( watch for birds - they steal). Watch the pelicans . I love the pelicans! Eat breakfast at the diner by the pier. The grits are great!!! And have flounder at Jack Mackerels! Now those are things you will never forget!!
