Looking for some advice on adding weight to my Belgian Draft. I got Wendy last May and was told by our Vet she needed to gain about 500 lbs. She measured at 1350 lbs....

I used Cool Calories on my Thoroughbred that wouldn't put weight on and it worked. Granted I'm not a draft owner, I have a thoroughbred lol, however I don't think she looks too bad. Top line and neck may seem a bit off but I learned with mine at least hers was lack of muscling that made her still look sunk in even after gaining weight, some work and it all filled out to lookin like a warmblood and not the gangly lanky tb I picked up lol

Lynne Kary- they are fir trees. But other than scratching I have not seen any damage to the trees by her. I'm guessing pine must not be good.....

Bev Kynoch--she no longer has her driving partner. From what I understand it was her sister that passed 3 yrs ago. At my house she has 2 other horses and 3 donkeys to spend time with.

I found beth Valentine's research on epsm diets for drafts to be really beneficial when I struggled to put weight on my girl. Here is one article of hers but if you Google her she's written many more. https://www.ruralheritage.com/vet_clinic/epsmdiet_goals.htm

I really liked Dr Becky Meier at Meier Veterinary in Marion. I'd still go there if I lived close. They are small, but very knowledgeable and caring. Do not use Kenwood Animal Clinic. They made one of my cats deaf by puncturing his eardrums during an ear flushing.

Linn Animal Hospital (1 st Ave) or CR Animal Hospital (off Mt. Vernon Rd). I've used both (1 for back up) and am really happy with both. They treated Bailey like she was their own and that's important.

Dr Riley at the pet hospital on J ave NE is good with small animals. He specializes in small dogs and cats. He is also reasonably priced. He actually cares about the animals. When one of my dogs got really sick and was in intensive care down by the airport he called me and asked how she was doing after a few days. Not many vets will do that.
Robin D. replied:
I have also gone to Greg Winteroud at Park Town Animal Hospital. He is also great with dogs and cats. The only reason I quit going there was that he was expensive.
Robin D. replied:
Do not EVER take your dog to Edgewood Road Animal Hospital. They are horrible. They tried to tell me once that a dog I had was having seizures and needed brain surgery. She was 14 years old and had mammary and ovarian cancer and would never have survived that. It turned out when I took her to Dr Riley that she just had a fever from the cancer and was shivering. I had gone there when he was on vacation and another clinic could not get us in. When she defacated on their floor I was going to pick it up but they stopped me and the doctor got a paper towel and picked it up. No sanitizer was sprayed or anything and they charged me a hazardous waste clean up fee. They also will not allow you to be in the room when the clip your dogs nails. That makes me wonder what they are doing to them. They say it is because the dog will be distracted. Umm no. My dogs are more calm if I am there to talk to them and sooth them.
