Hey me and my husband were wanting to go to St. Thomas for vacation! What are some good places to stay? We have been there before and love it! But we have always came on...
Kiki D. replied:
We have been in your shoes, in fact married there the first time we visited via cruise ship. The last several years we stayed on island for an extended time and have stayed in many different places/areas. I recommend the first time you stay, you find something close to Red Hook. That's where the 'night life' is. Look on AirBNB...and you will get many responses here from folks who own rentals. Point Pleasant is a good place to start. Or Sapphire Beach resort. Personally I think you will need a car (although Point Pleasant does have a shuttle service). BUT it can be very daunting to drive for newbies. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Cynthia D. replied:
I would highly recommend Rich Rez Bed & Breakfast. Leicia Richmond is the owner/operator, and I have known her for more than 20 years. Her home is located on top of a hill in Bolongo Bay. She is gracious, warm and the views are outstanding. She also has a pool.

Best Western Emerald Bay-it's right by the airport with an awesome beach and a good onsite restaurant. We have always stayed with our timeshare. Elysian, BlueBeards Beach Resort and Margaritavllle. Our first time 5-6 times was also On a Cruise. We just got back from 2 weeks on STT. Also look at VRBO.com and What Kiki suggested. Caneel Bay would be my first choice for STJ.
Cynthia D. replied:
DON'T stay at Bolongo Bay Resorts.

Check out my Studio! VRBO # 319267...steps from the Oceanfront Pool and the Beach, and located midway between Downtown (shopping!) and Red Hook (dining, fun, and the ferry to St. John!).

I ran the Made in the Virgin Islands shop in Drakes Passage until last Summer. Over 60 local artisans sold their wares in my shop from $5- $300. We advertised to the ships & in every hotel room. While people loved the idea, they didn't spend much money. Some months I sold more in sodas & suntan lotion & snacks than I did in locally made items. Fortunately, Downtown still has Brasilia Gift shop in Drakes, and 3 shops in Palm Passage focusing on various locally made products.
