I had great luck at [Consignment1 st](http://www.consignment1 st.com‎). Great quality stuff for a pretty good price. Went to the Matthews location.

I don't know if it would fit your tastes, but Sleepy Poet might be worth checking out. A lot of it is antiques and vintage goods, but you can find some interesting (and really weird) things there. www.sleepypoetstuff.com

Call Barbara Green owner of Sensibly Chic Designs for Life. She has a furniture line that is not only pet friendly, kid friendly, husband friendly and stain resistant. It's also reasonably priced! Call her at 704-608-9424 and checkout her website www.sensiblychic.biz Let her know that I gave you the recommendation. Good Luck!

I know this sounds crazy, but we bought our microfiber set from Value City Furniture and we have had it 10 years. It was about $2500 (sofa, loveseat, recliner) and has held up well (we are on the verge of a new set now, but we didn't expect 10 years out of it honestly). We got a stain protection that has worked for 10 years. No kidding.

Tyndall Furniture in Fort Mill is wonderful. Also Costco has terrific furniture. They have lots in the store right now. Incredible pieces at great prices. Both places have furnished a majority of my home and I love good furniture. I'm addicted.

If you want to take a drive, about 1.5 hours, go to Furniture Land South in Jamestown. Great selections and a really big clearance room. There are other furniture stores out that way as well. Good luck!
Does anyone know someone that can take out kitchen countertops and install new?
Jamie H. replied:
Yes we just had our kitchen redone. My dad is a contractor but doesn't live here so I wanted some else with a small business. So we used a guy named Harold. He owns a local business called American Cabinetry in Huntersville. He did a fabulous job. A lot less expensive than home Depot and Lowes. He did a friends kitchen as well. We bought all of the supplies minus the actual countertop (sink, faucet, tile for backsplash, grout, pull out trays for the cabinets under the sink and new cabinet hardware). He did the installation of it all in 4 days. I highly recommend him. He is very meticulous and does a thorough job.

I pulled a city directory from 1902 on Ancestry.com and all I can see is one W. F. Baker & Co, William F. Baker, R K Blair and M C Sims, proprietors. 221 W Trade. I can't tell yet what type of business it was. If I can figure it out I'll let you know. I have Bakers in my family too, so I was curious.
Marimac M. replied:
Mary Cele and I knew some of the Baker's. My father's very good friend was William Luben Baker, Jr. (Sonny) who is now deceased. Sonny's grandfather Baker owned a farm near what once was Smith Jr. High School on Tyvola Road. Baker Drive runs off of Tyvola and was named after the family. Sonny's father, William Luben Baker, Sr. lived in the family home on the property at Tyvola for many years. Sonny also has a son, William Luben Baker III (Chip) who also has a son named William Luben Baker IV. Sonny's other children are Diane and David or Davey. Sonny was born ca. 1929 and Luben Sr. Was born ca.1909. Tyvola Road was far from the Charlotte city limits at that time and was all farm land. You should be able to find more info from deeds records and maybe census or city directory info.
Can anyone recommend some favorite kids furniture stores in Charlotte or surrounding areas?
Rachel J. replied:
Avery and Ashley both have furniture from AP Industries furniture. They sell at furniture land south but we ordered from someplace closer...let me see if I can find where. Love both of their sets so much
