I'm engagement ring shopping! Does anyone have suggestions on places to look, people to work with? Hey everyone. I'm looking for engagement rings in the Charlotte area...

I had a custom engagement ring and wedding band made at Morrison Smith Jewelers. What neighborhood is that? Not really Elizabeth anymore is it?
Anyway, everyone there was super nice and helpful through the entire process. I was pretty picky and difficult about the stones we used so there was a lot of rejected sets going back and forth.
I have never purchased anything from the case there, so I can't really speak to their off-the-shelf pricing, but I thought what they charged me for the materials for the rings was fair and they were awesome about working with my tightening engagement schedule.
Once we we happened to be out to dinner down the street when the jeweler called us to let us know the wax model for wedding band was ready for approval to be sent out to be cast, and she actually brought it over to the restaurant for us to see because they were going to be closed before we made it over.

Whatever you buy, make sure it has a certificate with all the details. This way it can be appraised and insured. I would checkout the diamond clearing houses online, as they all use the same database for diamonds. I used http://www.abazias.com to find the exact diamond I wanted. I had a jeweler order it so I could see it in person (it was actually Fedexed to me lol). For the most sparkle, try to stick within these numbers and scales: Depth % - 60 – 62% Table % - 55 – 58% Polish – Excellent – Very Good Symmetry – Excellent Cut Grade – Excellent Crown angle – 33.5 – 35.8 degrees Pavilion angle - 40.5 – 41 degrees

http://madebycustom.com/ Lee, the jeweler, is great. He helped me design and create the exact ring I wanted. He was able to use all my existing stones and gold to make an amazing ring at an awesome price. I gave him a few pictures as a guide and within a few days he had a CAD drawing for me to review. He made a few adjustments to accommodate a few small touches. Originally he said it would take about a month to cast the ring and set the stones. He called me two weeks later to let me know it was ready to go. My wife loved it.

I designed my fiance's and had it made back in jan - feb. I ended up going out of state because i couldn't find any good mom and pop shops around here that wanted to help. I went to about 3 locations and the prices were extremely inflated. I know not much help but i was in the same boat at the start of the year. I ended up learning the factors that make a diamond shine, that will save you much money! You get to a certain point and the eye can't detect flaws and you can waste money if you go above that. Just for reference i went with: http://www.diamonddoctor.com Good Luck!!!

My husband got mine from [Perry's Gold Mine](http://www.perrysgoldmine.com/) on the recommendation of a friend. Highly recommend them as they have awesome customer service. Not sure about custom jewelry, but if you're evaluating any of the "name brand" jewelers, you should def check these guys out. Locally owned, and been around forever. They get a lot of estate jewelry and can do special order stuff too (mine was special order).

I went online, and I went moissanite instead of diamond. People can't tell unless you tell them, it was much cheaper, and she loves it. [Here's the ring](http://shopping.schubachstore.com/Style-919-1-05 ct-Three-Stone-Bypass-Engagement-Ring_2)

Call Lee or Katie@[Custom](https://customjewelrylab.com/). If they can’t source natural opal, they may know who can.

Also recommend Lindsey at The Antiquarian. https://theantiquarian.co/ The opals on her landing page are mine. She pulled them out of a terrible 90 s setting with a foil back and designed the setting.

Ellis Jewelers in downtown Concord is a reputable jeweler...if they can't appraise they can recommend someone I'm sure.
Laura C. replied:
Never been to Ellis but they are a long time reputable business in Concord. I would imagine there is an appraiser there. When Christopher's Jewelry was in Concord, Christopher did appraisals. He retired. Same thing with Suther's....miss those old time locally owned businesses. Perry's is certainly a well known reputable jeweler. They specialize in estate items so they have a whole cadre of appraisers. His brother Coleman Perry is also an independent jeweler & certified appraiser. He may be more reasonable. Not sure. Coleman is in the old Merchandise Mart (now called The Park) in Independence Blvd. His biz is called Perry's Gold Mine....I can vouch for Coleman. We've done business with him several times.....a family acquaintance & very nice. http://www.perrysgoldmine.com/
