Pediatric neurologist suggestions? Has anyone has EEG brain mapping done? I'm open to traveling to Vanderbilt or Atlanta.
Nicki K. replied:
The children's hospital here has a ped. Neurology group. We see Dr.Miller along with his nurse practitioner Susan Gain. We have been mostly happy. We did go to Vanderbilt to see a neurosurgeon for my sons surgery. Vanderbilts neurology group was on a whole different playing field. It's a bigger group so we got in pretty quickly. It is just more organized, and seemed to have it together a bit more than here. Saying that though, I feel like we have received great care here in Chattanooga by the Dr.'s which is why we haven't completely switched to Vanderbilt. Good luck!

Lillian and I are in the waiting room at Children's, waiting to be called back for her to be set up for a 24-hour EEG. We'll be staying overnight for observation. We saw Dr. Knowles years ago when Lillian was first diagnosed. He's since retired. When Lillian started to appear to be having seizures again, we were referred back here to see Dr. Miller. Some people think he's rude . . . I think he's just on the spectrum himself. He warmed up to us after several visits. Utimately, though, he referred us to the epilepsy specialist here, because he felt he had run into a dead-end trying to pinpoint what her exact diagnosis is. We are seeing Dr. Ireland now. I wasn't exactly comfortable with him at first, so we sought a second-opinion with Dr. Carson at Vanderbilt. We really liked him. However, he assured us that he's worked with Dr. Ireland and has the fullest confidence in him. His recommendations for Lillian are in line with Dr. Carson's. So, here we are today, having an EEG, under observation, to try to figure out her disorder. I'll let you know how this goes. Do your research, but keep in mind as you are asking for thoughts from parents, what you are getting is our opinions based on our personal experiences, and yours might be different. Also, we saw Dr. Young at Siskin for a neuropsych evaluation. It was extremely helpful in understanding Lillian's needs at school and helping us tweak her IEP, but I don't know if he's what you are seeking in terms of a medical diagnosis. Hope that helps. Good luck!

I do not recommend Dr Milker at TC Thompson at ALL. No bedside manner and he just isn't very knowledgeable about certain conditions. We now see Dr David Wolf at CHOA. He is an amazing Neurologist.

Mary Nelle Doyle Sprague is very knowledgable and can offer advice.
Stacy B. replied:
We seen Dr Miller here at children's he was a very nice Dr. I would recommend him.
Carrie L. replied:
I've really disliked Dr. Miller locally. Bad attitude, rude and not friendly with my daughter plus never, ever runs close to on time. We recently were referred to Dr. Brunett at Vanderbilt and like him a whole lot more.
Jennie T. replied:
We did not have a good experience with Dr Miller office, we went there for 2 years, we live in GA so we go to Atlanta now

J. Christopher Young, PhD, ABPP-CN is a Board Certified in Clinical Neuropsychology at Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation. He visited the CAC a few months ago and discussed his clinic and how they are seeing clients with epilepsy and other disorders, including autism. I don't remember if he does EEG brain mapping. You could call and get the details: (423) 634-1669

We see Dr Gargus at Siskin and everyone in their office is wonderful. The Costco is literally right off I-75 so it wouldn't be that long of a drive if you live close to the interstate. I am not too familiar with the Ooltewah area as I am originally fr om Florida, but there are several good restaurants downtown Chattanooga which also has a great Childrens Discovery Museum that does a lot of sensory events, and the Tennessee Aquarium...lots of things on the riverfront in the warmer months too. Good luck with your move and hope everything goes well.

WELCOME!! Dr. Tolosa, is also amazing. He is in with Dr. Screws! We love that office. Dr. Gargus is worth the wait. We do speech at the Chattanooga Speech and Hearing center on Holtzclow Ave. We also love to eat at Cheddars and Mellow Mushroom.

If you have great insurance and a lot of time on your hands, Dr. Rankine out of Erlanger medical plaza. Wait times to see him can get up two hours, and he may order more tests then you'll ever need. However he is thorough. He takes the time to listen (why you wait so long) and explains your conditions and treatment options.
