I need an Orthopaedic Surgeon for a serious wrist break. Hospital has recommended Lawrence Johnson in N Chelmsford, Any opinions or other recommendations?
Cathleen L. replied:
Brigham & Women Drs are great especially for the complicated. Can't go wrong there with any ortho dr
Adam H. replied:
Dr Alter
Mary B. replied:
Dr. Johnson operated on my broken wrist to insert pins (3 bone break) and I would recommend him. My only regret is that he didn't warn me months later before he pulled the pins out in his office. Pretty grotesque to watch.
Eleanor S. replied:
Dr Alter. Stay away from Dr Johnson.
Dolly K. replied:
I had his colleague Dr. Roman for hip replacement (both hips, at different times). Was very happy with him.
Kama D. replied:
Dr Johnson did surgery on my wrist many years ago. I was very pleased.
Susan H. replied:
I second Alice Hunter at Lahey
Diane R. replied:
Dr Samuel gerber
Kerry P. replied:
Kevin Tomany is amazing! I'd show you my tiny scar from wrist surgery but it's currently hidden under a full arm cast. Dr. Tomany just did elbow surgery for me on the 19 th of December. He and his staff are awesome and responsive.
Diane K. replied:
I would not recommend Dr Johnson. Poorest bedside manner I ever seen both with my son and myself. Both of us saw him on emergencies. Awful care. Terrible on communication. If u do go to him and he tells you something horrible, get a 2 nd opinion. Or if you're in a LOT of pain and he minimizes it get a 2 nd opinion. We've had him in both cases and he was wrong in both.
Steve K. replied:
Jerry, no recommendation either, but wishing you the best. Actually jerry, I 2 nd Dr Hunter out of lahey.
Jodie H. replied:
Jerry Loew, Happy New year!!! Well as you know Tyler has had many sports injuries one being a dinner fork break in his wrist Dr. Wu was a fantastic dr...
Barb B. replied:
Dr Tomany or Dr Alter
Kerry P. replied:
Dr. Alter is dismissing and has no bedside manner. He told me multiple times over 3 years there was nothing wrong with my wrist/hand, never ordered anything beyond an xray or PT. It was DeQuarvain's Stenosis, each flare up left more scar tissue. Dr. Tomany diagnosed in minutes, tried conservative treatment (cortisone and splints) then did the surgery when they didn't work. There was so much scar tissue it took 3 times as long as estimated.
Katie W. replied:
Dr Alter did my wrist, he was great. Bed side manner is a little gruff but he's the best surgeon!
Tricia M. replied:
Dr. Tomany is an excellent orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hands.
Barbara R. replied:
Dr. Tomany is wonderful.
Linda D. replied:
Dr. Baker. Easy to talk to and he listens. He treated me for Achilles Tendonitis Will do surgery when I agree.
Barbara E. replied:
We recently went to Dr Howard at Orthopedic Associates in Concord when my son dislocated his kneecap. No surgery needed but the Dr and practice were excellent.
Dan G. replied:
Dr. Gerber for sure, wouldn't go to Johnson ever again in my life after botching 2 surgeries on my shoulder.
Ariadne P. replied:
Dr. Alter. He is great.

Dr. Alter. Excellent surgeon. Put two pins in Dave's wrist, did an excellent job and was the 500% correct call.
Adelle S. replied:
Absolutely NOT Dr. Johnson ! Dr. Kevin Tomany in same office is a hand specialist. Think he even teaches the subject. Excellent surgeon. You know how nurses keep a mental note of the drs the And who they would go to if injured? Lots of waiting room patients wearing scrubs.

Dr Tomany is a hand specialist. Can't do better than him. Good luck!
Joe G. replied:

Dr Wu handled my daughter's broken arm....very nice!
Kerri L. replied:
Dr Alter on research place. My mom broke her wrist and ended up having surgery the day after it happened. I was with her for all her appointments and he was so nice. Just make sure you do the exercises he tells you to do after surgery!!
Ellen E. replied:
I have to say my experience with Dr. Johnson has been nothing but first class. He had done two surgeries for my Mom now, both successful. He was gracious and kind. He always takes time to talk to her and hear her concerns. He actually diagnosed her shingles when her primary care doc, Dr. Alam, poohoo'd her pain and said it was her back, when in fact she never bothered to physically look at my Mom. Dr. Johnson took her pain seriously and discovered the cause of her discomfort. I would definitely go back to him.
Denise C. replied:
Dr. Alice hunter at Lahey.. hand surgeon.. really wonderful., doesn't jump to surgery., I dislocated my elbow and she was convinced I didn't need surgery., and others didn't agree.. it healed great!!
Shirley A. replied:
Dr. Alter did my wrist surgery. Highly recommend him.
Kaitlyn M. replied:
Dr. Alter and his NP Roula are wonderful. Treated my carpal tunnel - promptly starting with splints/cortisone & surgery when those didn't work. Highly competent. I never sat long in their waiting or exam rooms. They are a busy office, so have your questions ready and speak up - they will answer them. I loved that they always got me in and out of there quickly. Roula even called me to check in the night after I had my surgery to make sure I was doing ok.
Laura M. replied:
Not Dr Johnson- Dr. Prybyla at Orthopaedics Associates in Drum Hill! Or Dr Tomany at Merrimack valley Orthopaedics in Drum Hill too!
Barbara W. replied:

Michael W. replied:

JulieAnn M. replied:
Dr. Johnson is awesome, I used to work for him. His partner Dr. Peter Roman is the hand/wrist specialist. The hospital usually recommends whoever is on call. But You can choose on your own too. Either Dr. is wonderful.
Lynn H. replied:
Another vote for Dr. Alter.
Eliane C. replied:
