Anyone have a recommendation for any reliable babysitter(s) in the area?

We adore and trust Hilda and Leslie Rocha at Leavitt/Superior. They have been watching our daughter since birth! They are fine with one-offs, full time part time, whenever in their home. Call Leslie at 312 804 4682. Tell them Lily's grateful mom sent you! They are one of a kind and it feels like family to us.

Diana Lazu of Caterpillar Care. She is a home day care provider. She accepts infants and toddlers up to three years of age. If you're looking for a beautiful and intimate environment for your children, you won't be disappointed. She's licensed and insu red. The business is also in our neighborhood off Superior@Paulina. They don't babysit off-site, but I thought you'd like to explore your options: ) [ www.caterpillarcare.com ]

Is anybody able to recommend a good nanny placement service? Or if you are aware of a good nanny looking for full time work in August please let me know. Thanks!
Jamie G. replied:
In addition to a nanny placement service, look on npnparents.org. There are so many parents looking to find a new placement for their current/previous nanny. Also, believe it or not, I've had good luck on Craigslist. You can post an ad for free. I've had less luck on Sittercity.com. Doing it on your own takes more time than working with a placement service but it'll save you a few thousand dollars if it works out in the long run (and you're able to expand your pool of applicants by so many).
Looking for a nanny- Sitter city.com care.com and safety I’m suddenly looking for a nanny for after school care for my 8 year old. Is there any real difference...

Sittercity has profiles that show people who have paid for a background check. The website encourages people to pay for that service because it makes hiring more likely, as there are many concerned parents wanting background checks on there too (: I recommend checking out that website.

Both sites are completely hit or miss, it really depends on your area. I will say that Care.com typically requires one of the members to be a “paying” member, so if you don’t pay for a subscription and a potential sitter doesn’t either, they’ll block you from communicating. Both sites background’s checks are identical to any independent background check, there is no way to fudge the results. You can either pay for the check yourself (through Care or independently), or you can ask permission to view the one a sitter already has on file.
Since you are looking for only after school care, you also should also expect to pay slightly above the average for care in your area, because you are only offering a small chunk of hours. I charge a minimum of $3 more an hour for short jobs to make it worth my while.
Many larger cities will have nanny and sitter agencies, and a lot of these specialize in hiring college students for jobs like these (and college students will be more suited to the hours you are expecting). A lot of these agencies will also run thorough background checks before hiring a sitter. Essentially, you interview first with the agency (as a sitter or nanny) and pass a background check. After that you’re added to their “pool” of sitters, and they’ll offer you either regular or one time jobs. As an employer, you’ll have to pay more up front (typically in the form of a placement fee) but you won’t have to sort through as many nannies yourself and the agency will give you candidates they think will fit the job.
If you are looking to pay legally, also expect a few more dollars an hour for that. And nannies are not independent contractors, they are household employees, so expect to set aside money for taxes. You will also need to reimburse for mileage, the minimum is roughly .25 cents per mile.
You will also want a contract, outlining the duties and expectations, as well as holiday pay and time off. Unless you are willing to pay extra, nannies typically do not take on any household duties, except for preparing dinner for their charge and making sure they clean up after themselves.
I would also check and see if your city has a nanny or babysitter page, you might be able to connect a bit easier with someone who suits your specific hours that way.

Care.com also gives the option of background checks. When I nannied years ago I paid I think $15 to get one and then any potential employers could view it. Now that I'm a momma I've been using care.com to find sitters.

Hope things are going well for your family. I have an au pair who is looking for a host family in the Chicago area. She has been in the U.S. for a year with a family in Glenview. They love her and wish they could keep her but for personal reasons they are unable to remain on the program. Do you know of any family in the Chicago area who may be interested in meeting her? She has been driving for her family. She only wants to find a family in Chicago because she has been going to school and would like to continue at the university. Looking for nanny? Anyone know where I can find an experienced full time nanny to watch my 4 month old twins and 2 and a half year old?
moonmadness1895 replied:
Good question. I wonder if there is a posting service or directory for this? I've tried searching, but no luck. Is it just word-of-mouth? Are there any licensing requirements for nanny's? If so, the licensing agency might have a directory. We're looking for a nanny as well as I'm a little leery of home daycare facilities since I live next to one and it always seems a little shady
