The phone number for the psychiatry department at Lurie Children's Hospital is 1-800-543-7362 (1-800-KIDS-DOC). They should be able to get you in touch with the right person. You did a great thing by asking for help, it can be very hard to do even for adults and shows a great deal of maturity.

Talk to your school counselor. They are there to help you
Rahx3 replied:
With your age that's a little tricky because any professional psychologist will need your parents' consent. Your school counselor can be a good place to start, even for local referrals. It would also be good to tell your parents and school counselor, if you feel comfortable doing so, so the adults in your life can look out for you and help you feel safe. Also, if there are any teachers at school or a friend's parent you trust, you can try talking to them. Good for you for looking for help, I know it isn't easy.

If you are having a psychiatric emergency, then you need to call 911 Suicide hotline is [800-273-8255](http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/)
HugYouSoHard replied:
School counselor can help so much. If anything they can help you find someone outside of school. Your parents can help too--if you use insurance they can find someone that can see you. Psychologytoday.com gives you a listing you can look through Definitely use the hotlines recommended. Given you age it will be hard to find someone to go to on your own so try to reach out to your counselor or parent/guardian/family member to set things up.

There is some great advice here. I would definitely try Lurie Children's Hospital as linked above. If you aren't comfortable with your school counselor or talking to your parents, think of someone you trust and could help you. Otherwise, call the numbers given above. Reaching out for help shows you have strength. Strength that even many adults don't have. Good for you.

If you attend a charter school or private school, chances are you wont have a school counselor. CPS is threatening to cut the sole K-8 counselor in each school next year. This boystown hotline is a great way to get help 24/7. 1-800-448-3000. Any help, anytime.

I struggle with that too, what I did was try to notice if there was a pattern in it and went to see my doctor. Fortunately for me there was a medical reason behind it. If you trust your doctor, go talk to them and see who they think would best help you.

This question has previously answered many times. Grad school is the route taken most often. I would say, probably in this order (move Research down two spots for MS degree or other potential route) Research Exp>High GRE Score>Related Internship>High GPA>Some marginally related work. SIOP.com or onetonline.org are great resources filled with enough to get you started. I'd welcome edits to the list above.

do you need the city proper or are suburbs ok? my recommendation would be to call the alexian brothers behavioral health hospital in hoffman estates (northern suburb). they have an anxiety/ocd intensive outpatient program and could give you a referral list of local psychiatrists. otherwise, check the directories at ocdfoundation.org or beyondocd.org good luck! and yes, you are right. ocd is quite specific and worth finding someone who knows it well!

With that said... I usually don't have the necessary startup capital to go into business for myself, so I find myself working for pennies all over again.
