Good morning, Columbus. A friend of mine is looking for dog boarding in the area and is having trouble. Does anyone have a recommendation?

With what are they having problems?

I've used PetSuites in Gahanna several times and been pleased. We go with the package that includes an individual suite and two 60-90 minutes group play times per day. You can also choose a one-on-one playtime if the dog doesn't like group play. I took my dog there for doggy-daycare a few times before boarding him overnight so he could get used to surroundings.

I used to work for the PetSmart at Easton. I know people are scared of boarding their dog there because of the name, but it's one of the only places I would board my dog. The staff is amazing and genuinely care about animals. I can't vouch for other PetSmart places (and I won't because I worked for one in Chicago and would never let my dog stay there), but this one really is great. Very affordable too.

I've used PetSuites multiple times. Each dog gets their own separate space and are let out 2-3 times a day. You can pay a small fee for extra 2-hour play times or a larger kennel if you'd like.

Dogboarding? And I thought waterboarding an already pretty extreme form of torture...

We used [Dog Vacay](https://dogvacay.com/) to find a person. It's kind of like Airbnb for dogs. The person we used sent us texts and was with her the whole time. It was great!

Animal Care Center at Cherry Way in Gahanna (acccw.com). Love them. Last time we boarded our 2 dogs together in a suite. Full time veterinary staff onsite, same handlers over several years. Our oldest dog is fear-aggressive and they are great with him.

I'm a pet sitter, so unfortunately I typically hear the horror stories about boarding places. The only one I typically recommend if I'm completely booked is Camp Bow Wow in Hilliard.
Boarding Service or at home pet sitting service for elderly cat in Columbus ? Good morning,
I am planning this years trips and I’m coming up with plans to make sure...

We always used the Cats Only vet clinic. They are super friendly and will take good care of your kitty.

I just left town and put my nervous cat at pet palace for a week. While pet palace is lovely and does its best, I would not recommend it. My cat didn’t eat for the first three days—too much new stuff, change, smells of all the other cats. The employees were lovely and communicative and tried different things to try to get him to eat, but I believe it was a mistake, and I’m lucky he had no long term health consequences from refusing to eat for so long. I would only ever pay pet sitters to come to my home from now on. Rover seemed like a great starting place because the sitters have profiles and seem very genuine. If you can swing it I’d go that route. Older kitties just have more trouble adjusting.
AngelaMotorman replied:
The in-home petsitter you want is [Elise von Borries, DBA Complete Critter Care.](http://www.home8.org/OH/Columbus/Complete-Critter-Care/) She has taken care of our cats since the mid-1990 s, and is far and away the most experienced and responsible sitter I've ever met. She's so good that she's usually completely booked by repeat clients -- if you make arrangements far enough ahead, you'll be lucky to get her.
chey_clark replied:
I usually take my cat to Pet Suites. You can tell them exactly how much and how often they should feed your cat, and they will also play with them a little. My cat doesn’t love going there and gets a bit anxious, but he’s usually calmed down by the time he gets back home. I’ve only ever kept him there for a few days/over a weekend so I can’t give feedback on what an extended stay would be like.

You mention your cat is very nervous -- he would probably most comfortable in his own environment. Whenever I go out of town for more than a night or two, I've used [Toni Sits Pets](http://www.tonisitspets.com/). I've been using them for almost 10 years and they're very reliable, will come over as often as you'd like them to, can administer medication if needed, will bring in your mail and rotate your blinds, etc. They'll also leave you a little diary telling you how each visit went. And they're bonded, which helps a little with the stranger-in-your-home worries.
Most/all of this will be true of any reputable pet-sitting service in the area; I think the main thing for your nervous kitty is to keep him at home with someone to check in on him occasionally.

I have a geriatric and a special needs cat so I'm good with both. If you're not too far a drive from me I might be willing to help out depending on timing. Feel free to send me a private message. Won't be offended if you don't, I know I'm just a stranger on the intertubes.

I hired an acquaintance to cat sit mine when I went out if town for a few days. My cat loved the extra attention.

We recently started using https://www.scalestailsandpaws.com/ They take great care of our 2 dogs and 3 cats, and provide updates (usually with pictures) every time they visit. Highly recommend them if you are in their service area. We're on the north side of Columbus.

A couple of thoughts... Try out a boarder while you are home- Let them stay overnight and you pick them up the next day and see how his demeanor is after the over night trip. Do this a couple times till YOU feel comfortable with the boarder. THis will help ease your anxiety. That being said PetPalace (i have never boarded there) has cameras and suites that seem awfully nice for a kitty cat for a vacation.

Check with your vet. My vet has some employees that like to make a bit of extra money on the side by caring for pets. They'll come to your home on a schedule and feed/play with them.
DunkingDognuts replied:
Check www.rover.com They offer homes for boarding. Also check with your vet. They will usually know people who will per sit.

I've used the boarding and day care services at the Pet Palace. They have a couple locations in town but the Airport location has always taken good care of our little guys.

I have used" all tails are wagging" for boarding they were really great with my little guy. Each cat had their own space and they always ask what kind of dietary needs they have. It's been a while since I've had to board my cat but he doesn't live with other cats and he did well there. I've also had friends come in and check on him, but now he just hangs out at home because he can go in and out as he pleases.

Certainly not convenient, but I use Four Paws resort in Marysville. I use them for work/leisure trips one+ week length. Great for active dogs - they are outside all day with the "day care" dogs and in the kennels at night. I think $25/day, $150/week.

I've boarded at Canine Social Club on Riverside for several years. It's off leash, which my corgi loves.
Any of my friends know of a local dog sitter or doggie daycare that opens earlier than 7? The ones I've found open at 7 need one or someone I can hire to pretty much...

Call the PetsMart at Easton@614-418-9389 ext 6 and the ext 1. I work there occasionally and technically we don't open until 7 am, but depending on the day of the week we can get you in earlier. Ask to talk to Kattiey, Becca, Courtney...and tell them you know me! Yesterday at 4:50 pm
