Just got back from Ormond Beach, Fl which is about 20 minutes north of Daytona. And it was totally not what we expected! No crowds, no traffic. It was downright weird! We are used to Myrtle Beach, PCB, so this was a great change of pace. Also Pensacola Beach is a great low key location too.

Jekyll Island for sure. St. Simon's is about a 15 minute car ride if you choose to have some night life. Jekyll is low key, rentals for any budget, tons of sea life and dolphins to watch, extremely low key and family friendly. Also, you don't have to wait 2.5 hours to get into a restaurant for dinner. Just make sure if you go with kids that you stay in a place away from the rocky section. When tide goes out there is a huge sandbar on Jekyll you can walk out on and find shells and sand dollars. Best of all, it's only 5.5/6 hours from here!

The Mermaid Cottages on Tybee Island are dog friendly and adorable. We were there in March. We just got back from Miramar Beach, for spring break with our kids and pups. We stayed at Maravilla Condos....they are pet friendly, right across the steps from the beach, private beach access, have two pools and free beach chair/umbrella service. I agree with Michele ^ - beach & historic Savannah aren't really all that close to each other, so you pick one & be prepared to drive to the other. That said - we've always loved trips to Savannah & usually choose to stay in town b/c my family prefers that over a beach. Pirate House is good for the kids - and the after-dinner tour is interesting - kids loved it. Dolphin tours are good, too. We've done the trolley tour, the old fort, ghost tour, etc. Always a good time! We usually stay at the Holiday Inn Xpress b/c it's one block from River Street, great location & free bfast. Enjoy your trip!!
Kim K. replied:
I lived in Savannah for two years. Staying close to the beach and the Historic District is mostly impossible, but you can stay sort of equal distance between the two. Try some of the houses on Whitemarsh Island or Wilmington Island. You must take your son to eat lunch at the Green Truck on Habersham street, and at the Sugar Shack on Tybee. My seven year old niece loved visiting Fort Pulaski, and going up on top of the old fort, looking at the cannons, etc. He might like Bonaventure cemetery or one of the ghost tours, depending on his age. He will probably enjoy river street, city market (has a candy shop and an ice cream place). River street always has first Friday activities on the first Friday of the month. There's a fantastic farmers market in Forsyth Park on Saturdays, and someone there used to make homemade candy. Oatland Island has a wildlife preserve, which has a variety of animals to see, including birds of prey, wolves, etc.
Cheryl H. replied:
There is a pirate boat tour from River Street - kids dress up as pirates and have fun. Go to VisitSavannah.com for all the info you need.

Costa Rica is huuuuuge for medical tourism. I think a lot of their work is probably better than you can find here
Not in Costa, however I have had 4 root canals, three inlays, 2 crowns, 1 tooth pulled and one implant done in Peru. A wonderful experience. I have visited Peru probably 30 times in the last 10 years. If you need some help, I will be more than happy to assist you. www.perudental.com

We are planning a trip to Savannah and a friend highly recommended The Old Pink House for dinner and Mrs Wilkes for lunch. They are both on trip advisor if you want to look them up. My friend is a foodie so I think they should be good.

Olde Pink House for dinner and Huey's on the river for breakfast
Brandy B. replied:
Huey's for breakfast. Tubbys Tank House at Thunderbolt (Not the one on River St.) for lunch or dinner. If your looking for something nice & historical Olde Pink House for dinner or 17 Hundred 90 Restaurant. Don't forget to visit Leopolds Ice Cream while there. As far as hotel goes I don't like anything on Tybee. We always stay at the Mansion at Forsyth Park. Hands down best place in Savannah. My husband and I go about 4 times a year and where married there.
Lauren E. replied:
I'm from the Savannah area and there are no nice hotels on Tybee. All rests mentioned above are good. My absolute favorite is The Olde Pink House for a nice dinner. Crab Shack is great for a causal dinner.
Melissa M. replied:
Mrs Wilkes is far better than Paula Dean's place. Screaming MiMis or Vinnie Van Gogo's for pizza. The crabshack on Tybee or The Cotton Exchange on River Street are great seafood places. I lived in Savannah for 3 years and found the food to be the best part. Also, if you're into martinis, Jen's Martini Bar is awesome; they have crazy/cool flavors. Also Lulu's Chocolate Bar for desert and drinks. Hotels vary a lot by price, so I'd check Trip Advisor for your area/budget.
Gina S. replied:
The Old Pink House is a must... and Huey's on River Street has a great Sunday Brunch!
Stacey L. replied:
Treylor Park in Savannah has a cool patio in the back and awesome PB&J wings if you are looking for something different and local.

I was just there for a long weekend at the end of July. Don't know what your budget is but got a great deal on Trivago for the Hotel Millennium Broadway/Times Square. Try one of the older hotels in Manhattan in Midtown. I've stayed at both the Hotel Edison and The Manhattan (this was my favorite) at Times Square. But, if you need a little more space the New York Hilton Midtown has good sized rooms or The Millennium Hilton in the financial district has an amazing view of the Hudson and Ground Zero.
