Heating oil recommendations? Halifax redditors, it's getting about that time in the winter when oil is starting to get low... this is our first place with oil heat. Any...

We've had really good service from Scotia - the very few times we've had problems (upstairs neighbor switched companies and told them the wrong fill pipe, so we were getting her oil), Scotia sent a guy to look it over immediately. They were also super helpful when we had to decide between billing that goes tank-to-tank or using a plan that spaces out your payments over the entire year. We just bought a house, and we'll be taking Scotia with us.

I use Discount and they gave my credit card # on file so it's as easy as can be. Reliable and reasonable.

I used to answer phonelines for a bunch of the oil companies and would probably recommended Save On Fuels overall. They tended to have a competitive price, they had a wide delivery area and the people at the office were pleasant to deal with. They are who I recommended to my mother when she bought a house and they are still who she's with several years later.

The discount companies are good because you can get a really good rate for your oil, but they are COD, so you have to pay when they deliver. I have Irving who I do a budget plan with, and they auto deliver. I didn't start with that at first, but after the first year when I nearly ran out of oil, it seemed like a good way to go.

I use [Aabel fuels](http://www.aabelfuels.ca/) So far no complaints. also as a tip if you are running low on fuel you can always go to the gas station and get some Diesel in a jug. It is the same fuel the only difference is furnace oil is dyed to show that it isn't taxed. It helps on a freezing night and no heat. Good luck and lots of companies to pick from
