Many great NEIGHBORHOOD options-I use Josh Knight 252-8615. He is right off of 14 th (behind Garvis Honda). Does quality work and at a fraction of the cost of others. Also, Steve Hurley at 6 th and Madison, Classic Towing and Automotive 265-5577, and also Dale's Wright Tire and Auto Service 1825 Euclid 277-4392. All of these are great neighborhood choices who also help support LOCAL community events!

I recently had a blown tire on a small utility trailer & pulled in behind the laundromat at 6 th & Euclid. We couldn't get the lugs off, but was able to get in touch with CLASSIC TOWING (6 th & Madison). He got there very quickly & had the right tools & knowledge to get the lugs off & gave us some good advice about reversed lugs. He did a great job at a very reasonable price! I think his name was Steve. Steve Hurley

Wholeheartedly recommend Ace Body and Motor. They are just south of Broadway between NE 14 th and 2 nd Ave. He has been my mechanic since the late 1980's.
Trusted mechanics? Good morning everyone!
Would anybody know of a decent mechanic that they trust? I'm suddenly needing one for obvious reasons...

I always go to Tom Davis on the east side. He’s quick and honest. He’s even fixed my car for free a few times!

Mobile Super Service on E 6 th and Scott. They basically charge at cost for parts and labor is reasonable. They guarantee their work for 1 year, as well. They also do aftermarket mods if you are interested in that, lol. The first time I went there I had to have a lot of work done on my brakes (new pads/rotors/calipers on the front, new master cylinder, new calipers on the rear drum breaks), everywhere else was quoting me $1000 and up and it would take three weeks. These guys did it in two days for $500, and they did quality work as well.

When I was in Des Moines I used the garage just west of Merle Hay Mall next to the Long John Silvers. I cant remember the name but they always treated my ex and I well.

Beckley's. I was recommended to them by the Drake Garage when I had my VW cause Drake didn't have the correct tools to work on it. I've been at Beckley's ever since. Also it's one of the few places in town that you'll just randomly see a Lamborghini Diablo VT on the wash bay lift. Beckley’s (by the Vue apartments) did a nice job when I went there last week for a tranny flush. A little pricier but they do well (so I’ve heard).

Terry's Auto in West Des Moines has been getting my family's business forever. They're the only auto shop I've ever heard of where if they don't find anything wrong they'll tell you that and charge nothing! Blows my mind that they're that honest.
outofalign replied:
Bill's White Wall has been nothing short of amazing to me. Very honest and fair, as well as very reasonably priced. I would tell you to stay away from Midas, Jiffy Lube (for anything), and Earl's Tire - horrendous experiences (yes, experienceS) at Earls.

CPS in Grimes. They do work on ANYTHING you have, and they have always come through for me. AMSOIL products readily available, too (buy the oil, they change it for free). Cars, trucks, old / foreign cars, boats, forklifts, tractors... But they are busy.
anon_girl_23743 replied:
If you’re on the west side, I’d recommend Willard Garage. $350 brake jobs, $45-$75 oil changes (includes giving the car a very good checkup, filling all fluids, etc.), $99 alignments...family owned. They’re really good people and only want to get the cars they work on back on the road without screwing over their customers. 2 year / 24,000 mile warranty on their work.
LeapingDuck replied:
If you are up near Ankeny/Saylorville you should consider McCannic's Garage. They’ve always been very fair to me.
Where is a good, HONEST, local, reasonably priced mechanic? Any leads?
Jeff H. replied:
I have always found Dale's Wright Auto on Euclid to be very honest and not too high priced. They are on right just before the river going west.

Higgin's Auto Plaza is the BEST in town. They're on Douglas & 73 rd-ish across from El Rodeo (used to be on the corner of Merle Hay & Douglas) It's a family business that's been around a couple generations. Friendly, HONEST, reliable, and reasonably priced. They stand behind their service & always make it right.

Another thing when doing these kind of jobs is you're going to need to refill the coolant. So catch as much as you can in a VERY clean pan and reuse it. You're also going to need to buy some probably. It's called Dex Cool. That's what your car takes and it's orange
