Can you recommend any moving companies? I'm moving soon and I need recommendations on companies that will use their own truck, load it, and also unload it at the new...

Athens Moving Experts! I used them after someone moving into my apartment building moved in and I saw how nicely all of their furniture was wrapped up. I packed most of my stuff but saved all dishes and breakable items for them to pack. Nothing broke, and there was not one scratch on anything. Have recommended them to several people since then and everyone has been very happy. The movers were really nice guys.

Stay far away from Ken’s Pack and Move. The owner, Kendrick James Earl Sheppard, did several prison stints for multiple offenses including selling drugs on school grounds. Details available in NC Department of Corrections website, Offender Number 0366417

Two Men and a Truck... the workers say they are independent contractors and treated poorly but pay is decent I had good service from the team that moved me but the story they told was heart breaking.
Any suggestions for a moving company for a small local move? Just sold our old townhouse in cary and need to move the last big pieces of furniture ASAP.

Moving from DC to NC to start grad school. Any suggestions for a good, reasonably priced, reliable, moving company? I will be relocating this summer to start grad school...

+1 on Trosa - plus they are more than just movers. Its actually a non-profit to help former substance abuse patients integrate back into the working world. They are awesome. http://trosainc.org/

Thanks to both of you - I had read about TROSA and am totally interested in using them but was unsure if they could do out of state. It looks like they do, so I will definitely consider them.

It's almost always cheaper to hire two sets of movers to get your furniture into and out of a self-rented U-Haul. 3 hours at embarkation, 3 hours at destination - and this way you're not stuck paying through the teeth for mileage charges (and your possessions are never out of your hands) Once you are NC - I can't recommend Trosa enough. They are consistently the lowest-priced and best-performing movers in the Durham/Chapel Hill area.

When I moved from NYC, I rented a U-Haul truck, and then added movers through their online form at the end of the submission. There's ratings/reviews you can use to compare (as well as price.)
hokoonchi replied:
TROSA moved us from NoVa to NC. They had the best price, wonderful customer service, and they're a nonprofit. They're based in Durham but will send someone to you to do a quote. Their prices were unbeatable.
tappineeco replied:
I read about TROSA and was really interested in using them but was unsure if they could come out of state - thanks for confirming this! I am leaning towards a moving company because I have a very tight window with my work end date, move out date from my apartment, an out of state wedding, and the start of orientation/classes. TROSA is definitely high on the list, but different suggestions in case they are unavailable are still welcome.

I moved from Richmond to here with Hilldrup ( http://hilldrup.com/ ) and was well enough satisfied. I did full service, where they did the packing. They didn't charge me extra when it turned out the estimator underestimated the weight. They had no complaints on the couple of sites I checked out. But I didn't really have enough time to compare a lot of prices or compare a lot of companies, so don't use them on my word alone.

I just moved from NOVA to Durham and used "Two men and a truck". They gave me a fixed price cost for the move. They loaded and drove the truck down and delivered it the next day at my new place. It was the same crew who did it all and were very professional. They were about 25% cheaper than the big interstate movers and they would guarantee the pick up AND drop off date. Most big movers only load and then ship your stuff down as freight so you have a window of days where they deliver it. All in all, very satisfied with the whole process and would recommend.

I did the same move last year and used Town and Country Movers. Mario was the driver and Chris was the estimator. They were on time for everything, their movers didnt break anything AND when the actual weight came in under the estimate, they refunded me the difference! They made a very stressful situation easy, and I highly recommend them.
Mover recommendations? Looking for some movers for a move on the 28th. Any recommendations?

I recommend TROSA: http://trosamoving.com It is a charity that hires recovering addicts and they do a GREAT job. Thankful, hardworking people.

Upwright Moving out of Holly Springs. Small enough that they are able to carefully select their employees, instead of having a dozen different teams and one or two of those might be high quality. And none of the usual gimmicks the big boys play about locking the truck until you pay them more money than originally quoted. They also hire TROSA alumni.
RaleighRealtor replied:
Marrins Moving is fairly good. TROSA can be fantastic, or it can be terrible. Doesn't seem to be a lot of middle ground with them.

Heard wonderful things about TROSA from friends when we moved. Ultimately ended up going with Upwright due to their cost being lower and they were great and I highly recommend them. All My Sons also came highly recommended and I had a horrible experience just dealing with them on the phone and would advise you to stay away based on that alone.
I'm looking for recommendations for a horse transport company that can do coast to coast shipping. I’m less concerned with cost and more with safety, quality of care...
