I had a great experience with Dr. Philip Klemka. He’s a very nice and quirky man who practices cognitive behavioural therapy, and the great thing is, he’s a medical doctor as well, so visits are covered under Alberta health. Because of that, of course, his wait times can be a bit long, but for me a few years ago it was only a couple months before I could start seeing him regularly. He helped me immensely and I’d highly recommend him if you can wait the little bit to get in to see him.

You could Call 811! They can give you some specific recommendations for companies especially if cost is an issue. I (24F) found cornerstone Counselling through that. I see Agnes who is a student still. If you go through your doctor, they might also be able to connect you through the primary care network

Dont waste your money. Find some old, experienced people to talk to. Theyre happy to help, for free, and do a far better job. And they win too, with your company.

I cannot yell this loud enough....do NOT go to Dr. Finola Fogarty, legit. Stopped my medication cold turkey from my family doctor that was working for me, to put me on what she wanted me on, extremely high dose to the point where I was in hospital, and her response was "that usually doesn't happen". Tried putting me on a really high dose of lithium, tried diagnosing me with OCD, bi polar, manic...tried convincing me I was sexually assaulted as a kid. Legit. She saw my husband for a brief moment and tried telling him he had sleep apnea. Not to mention I would get calls that she would be at least 4 hours late for my appointment.

Hit up Google Maps and search in your area, then read the reviews for the offices. Psychologists are hit-and-miss because you need to find someone who can click with you and that's very individual and personal. Expect to have to shop around a bit before finding the person who's right for you. Good luck!

Dr McManus is my psychiatrist and is at college plaza. He is covered by Alberta Health Cafe and will monitor meds, refer to programs as necessary and does ask questions about how you're doing but does do traditional talk therapy session. Most psycholog ists are 45-55 minute times slots. You can sometimes request a two hour appointment but I assume you would then be paying for two hours. Not sure of you availability but there are several group therapy day programs through the hospitals. They do require a referral. You could check out PPHP, POP, DBT, Advanced skills, to name a few.

Christopher marusiak is really good! About $120 a session. You just have to find your type and style. His style is trying to make you the psychologist and mentor yourself, so he'll discuss charts and things to help you understand yourself a bit more so you can monitor yourself independently
borborygmi1977 replied:
Kells Counselling in the south side has a number of different psychologists who have great reputations. You give them a call and an intake person will go over what your needs are to pair you with the best fit. If you don't click with that person you can always switch to another one without having to re-do an intake process.
Shnicksy replied:
You want whoever works best with you. Make a plan of what you want to accomplish and then seek out a doc. Ask them how they would plan on helping you achieve your goal. Might take a number of different visits to find your right doc. Good on you for trying to better yourself. Good luck.
