I'm a certified trainer and I'd be happy to answer any questions if you'd like to PM me. Please be aware that training is an unregulated business, so anyone can do anything to your dog with impunity. Look for a trainer who will motivate your dog to change her behavior by rewarding good behavior, instead of punishing the dog through the use of reprimands, intimidation, and pain via shock, pinch and choke. It can, and most likely will, make your dog's behavior worse in the long run. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior has some guidelines for choosing a trainer that you might find helpful: https://avsab.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/How_to_Choose_a_Trainer_AVSAB.pdf

We had a dog with aggression issues come into our rescue and we used FOUND Chicago. They specialize in aggression. They worked wonders for our guy and he was a large pitbull with probably much scarier problems than a little shin tzu lol. The only issue is that they are located in Chicago so it was a drive but it was well worth it. We put him through their 2 week boot camp and it was great. Boot camp is not cheap, but it does work. They do a 30 minute consultation before they start any training so they can get a game plan together. The other thing to remember is that dog training depends a lot on the owner. She will need to be trained in how to be a leader. The problem with most shih tzus is that they are babied and treated like humans. They have no leader, so they naturally try to step into the leadership role. sometimes their are cases where the particular owner is just not right for the dog because hey don't possess the energy needed for that particular dog. You can give her my info and have her call me if she needs any advice. Just Pm me if needed:)

I have trained at Lyons Township Dog Training Club for the past 13 years. It is a little ride as it is at the Odeum in Villa Park on Tuesday evenings. They have have puppy, obedience, rally and agility classes. I am now one of the agility instructors. It's a fun evening out and my now 13 year old dog still loves school night and although we have retired from competitions, she she still loves practicing agility. Look up ltdtc.org.
