Honestly, depends on what type of vehicle. As others said--prices vary incredibly. Also--the ability does as well. You aren't going to get a newer BMW, Audi, or even VW programed from a locksmith--most are dealer only.

A little key making stand inside Sears fair oaks. Charged me $150 for a programmed key. They're called the keyless shop.

I googled automotive locksmith when my key wouldn't work and I was stuck at pentagon city. Called the first result no they came out and made a key for me. Cost me like $180 though

I bought a key on Amazon and had it programmed at the dealer. Surprisingly, the dealer was cheaper than any locksmith in the area, and I called around.

Do you have a new Key? You dont necessarily need to reprogram it if you have one that works.(See link below). If you need a key cut it depends on the make model and year. Not all locksmiths have a programmer for that. You will have to call around. But I had a key made for an 04 Honda Civic. At this place. http://arlingtonlockinc.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk5_wFMU1 dM
